El Presidente Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I was working in the Warehouse yesterday and opened a Trinidad Coloniales out of a 5 pack (Lise... put the 5 pack on my account ) In the realm of PC's the Coloniales is not often spoken of and I am as guilty as most. Perhaps it is beacuse I have had some a half year back with a "papery" note on the palate...a mental block occured and other PC's took front and centre. Thoroughly enjoyed yesterdays. It was an 08 and medium full with a huge nicotine kick/buzz. Without doubt the strongest Trinidad Coloniales I can recall ever having while still having a shortbread coffee note I always associate with them. Who has been enjoying the Coloniales of late?
Puros Y Vino Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I've had two over the past 6 months. Out of a 5 pack as well. I found them to have some kick. Definitely exhibit that "shortbread" characteristic. At times it gave me coffee grounds which were a bit bitter. Most of that was towards the end. Otherwise I feel it's an excellent smoke. It gives you a of flavours throughout the thirds. I'll revisit one in a few months and see how it fares.
cellinisart Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 picked up a nice looking box but they have been bad, need age, harsh I have not had one good young 2010 box yet, they all need age, in jan/feb this year it was easy to find 2 year aged boxes that smoked much better but now they have cut production the roll is tops but everything is under a year and to young to smoke right now. I liked it the other way around. Ill take a few underfilled sticks to get 2 year old boxes again.
Smallclub Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 … medium full with a huge nicotine kick/buzz. Same experience, even with those from 2005… I find them unbalanced.
CanuckSARTech Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Got one from a potential 2008 (definite pre-March 2009) five-pack of these, from a BOTL on here in a trade. Will be trying it in the spring, as I've never had this specifically before. Interested to hear the opinions. I definitely find the Reyes to have a kick-in-the-arse to them, somewhat polar-opposites from the Robustos T's fresh refinement and herbal tones.
adic88 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Smoked through 2 boxes of 24s in the last 12 months, and i can say that i thoroughly enjoyed each and every stick. Wonderful cigars.
hddeucebrad01 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Had 2 from an 08 box over the weekend. Burned a little uneven but good flavor. One of my favorite Trinidads and love this size!
mm12 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Have an 07 box currently in the rotation, and they're smoking great. They have some shortbread, some burnt sugar cane, and a candy-like sweetness along with clean toasted tobacco.
anacostiakat Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I have an untouched 05 box. I don't buy a lot of this marca.
Daidemo Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I just bought a box OUR JUL 08. They are not yet ready for smoking - one-dimensional with distinctive "straw" taste. I will try another one in sixth months but they probably need more than a year... BTW at the same time I bought a box of Reyes (OUR NOV 08) and they are great.
El Presidente Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 Had another from the 5 pack as I walked around the warehouse yesterday. Excellent and again strong. All shortbread and black coffee. If they could all be like this they would be the no 1 PC
jimmyk26 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I have not had one good young 2010 box yet... This is similar to my experience, '10s are so far so bad. I haven't had anything older, so I can't comment on the other years, but the 2 '10s that I had suffered from severe plugging. I may have enjoyed the flavors if I wasn't so mad at the construction. I have pretty much stayed away from them since. This thread may just inspire me to return and to try them again...this time with age.
khomeinist Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 This cigar is one of my 'go-to' smokes. I have been through 4 or 5 boxes in the last couple of years. They definitely go through a 'sick' period. Just forget about them and you might be really surprised upon your return. One of my favorite 'early afternoon' coffee sticks (along with the JL 1). Not expensive enough to sweat if work beckons. Classy enough to release the imagination. If you will......
Charltonc Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I have recieved some from 08 in your petit corona sampler and they were the best cigars in the sampler.
