BradNC Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Just curious if Rob, Smithy, Ken and the crew have ever considered doing a video showing their lighting techniques for cigars. Just curious how they differ and what works for them. Maybe discussion on other topics such as whether or not they purge their cigars at any point while smoking, relighting, if they touchup cigars while smoking, etc. Just a suggestion but maybe I'm the only one who would be interested in this info? Thanks, Brad

We can certainly do such a Vid. Predominantly here on the deck we have a slight breeze so torches are the way to go. ken tends to use matches on his deck which is well sheltered. If I have a choice (and no breeze) I will use cigar matches where possible or a strip of cedar.
BradNC Posted October 12, 2010 Author Posted October 12, 2010 Thanks Pres. I'd love to hear y'all discuss the topics and insight, experiences, etc. Maybe others can chime in if it interests them too. soutso Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 An old thread but worth bringing up to get different ideas. I use a torch or lighter and am careful to avoid the flame actually touching the foot as I rotate the cigar until it's charred. Then I lightly touch the flame to the foot and puff short light puffs, maybe two to three times to get an even burn.

LordAnubis Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I burn the **** out of it with any form of fire till it's lit. I've lit cigars with anything and everything. I don't cut my cigars either. I pick the cap with my nail. More for convenience cos in always travlleing and I can't obviously take cutters carry in with me. And I don't often smoke pyramids so I'm good with the nail. MrGTO Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 My choice if I'm on the deck. I laugh at the wind! 3
dicko Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 definitely a torch. Perth is windy. I rotate the cigar as I light to get an even burn.
Optic101 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Mostly torch, if no wind then I use a soft flame lighter.
subport Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Wooden matches, soft flame, torch. Whatever is close to my hands :-D
amart Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Indoors/No wind = matches. IM Corona Double Corona once I get it back from repair. Any other time = Ronson torch. I toast with all sources of flame. Usually takes me about 4 kitchen matches to get it lit.
Arkay Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Torch is the ticket--cans of butane refill a must. 1
amart Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Also, I noticed a distinctly different taste between two Monte 2s between toasting and when lighting quickly. Has anyone else noticed this as well>
sengjc Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Something must be wrong with that car if the exhaust temperature is that hot!
rigby Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 cuban always gets a cedar spill when at home... a light char while rotating the cigar slowly followed by a couple of puffs, and one purge puff once fully lit. non-cuban gets the butane torch at home... same method as above, except if I'm out on the town... then of course I use my Lambo... as per the video... ;-]
