hakamo0o Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Hello FOH, This is my first review ever, and also it’s my first Cuban. I choose the Cohiba Siglo I to be my first CC for two reasons: 1. The Cohiba name is repeated a lot on TV (Series like Simpsons etc…), and I have learned that it is one of the best brands Cube has. 2. The Siglo I size is very convenient, so “if” I didn’t like it; I would just leave it aside to die with no big loss ($$ wise). As you can see that I did cut of a little bit more that I was supposed to, so the draw became a little lose but not so bad Date of production: sorry but I wasn’t able to get it, but it was the last stick in a SLB of 25 and it spent a month in my humidor; so it seems to be old enough Accompanying drink: Ahmed Tea: English tea No. 1 Construction and wrapper: Firm construction and bounces back if pinched at the foot. Medium colored wrapper with oily shine (as you see) and no visible defects. Aroma at cold and draw: Had a sweet raw-licorice like aroma and the smell of really good tobacco. The initial draw had the same taste as the aroma but also left that sweet licorice taste on my lips; a bit salty but enjoyable Opening: As I started to roast it slowly it emitted that good smell that you get at the first 2 mm of every cigar; nothing special. 1st third: the first third was amazing; the taste was round, smooth and creamy. The smoke was thick although it is a small gauge cigar. It tasted like fine tobacco mixed with Swiss-chocolate flakes. That aroma I always smell at the beginning of cigars but never tasted it; this Siglo tasted exactly like it. 2nd third: as I started to enter the second phase, it started to get bolder. The chocolate/tobacco taste got stronger and tended to taste like Swiss dark chocolate (Lindit 65%). Half way it started to burn unevenly but I corrected it twice. The combination between the tea and its taste was delightful; it was like every sip is an extension to the cigar’s draw with a sweet finish. 3rd third: entering the last phase the same taste continued but with one other addition; a spicy menthol like feeling started to evolve on my tongue which was really enjoyable. The finish was very good with no bitterness but with a very pleasant aftertaste. As everybody else I also burned my finger refusing to put this cigar down, it is really hard to say goodbye to it. Final judgment: (must try) A very good starter for newbies as it is medium bodied and small; just enough to make you want MORE. I still taste it every time I see these pictures
hoyopr Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 That is one great review and your photos are very nice. The Siglo 1 was the first Cuban that really set me on the path. Thanks for taking the time and photos.
CanuckSARTech Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Nice review and great pics - I like how you got the smoke in there in your second last shot. Well done.
investandprosper Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Great review, love the pictures. I've been debating picking up a box of these. I just might have to
hakamo0o Posted October 4, 2010 Author Posted October 4, 2010 Thanks to all, you are encouraging me to write a review for every Cigar I try Nice review and great pics - I like how you got the smoke in there in your second last shot. Well done. To be honest; that was pure luck see you next review.
Squali Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Had my First Siglo l last week . One of the best cubans I've had so far . I really enjoyed it . I've also had a few Siglo ll's . For me personally , the Siglo l was a better fit . Can't wait for more to arrive !
cigcars Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Thank you for the excellent review. Very thorough, very detailed...Jackohalloran - if you're watchin', be sure and read this, you will be helped in your cigar flavor search!
rdb6 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Impressive review with wonderful pictures. My first Siglo I, smoked in Jamaica 12 years ago, was the cigar that made me realize that CC's are the only way to go. A great cigar.
SeanL Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 The Siglo I was also my first exposure to the Cohiba marca. The flavour profile isn't necessarily something I would want to experience every time I have a cigar (the variety within the cigar world is a plus!), but it is definitely worth revisiting from time to time as the budget allows. A local store has some Siglo I from 2006 and I managed to obtain some. I am rather looking forward to enjoying them when the mood strikes.
android Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Luv these little babies in the a.m. with coffee.
SeanL Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I've never really been keen to pair cigars with anything but water, but I can see the Siglo I going well with coffee. Gotta keep that in mind once spring rolls around and give it a try.
fred170 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Hey...She had a little life left in her...Keep Puffinn away....
docbp87 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Siglo I will be my first Cohiba. Looking forward to it. That's a hairy looking wrapper

stargazer14 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Nice review. "it spent a month in my humidor; so it seems to be old enough" I'm surprised Jimmy doesnt that in 80pt type in his sig! : )
