Yes, quite a bit. It's much creamier than regular Maker's with notes of caramel and vanilla. Nice oaky finish with little spice. The extra 4% proof does it wonders.

If you like Makers you'll LOVE the 46 same great bourbon, only a bit smoother and stronger. It's tough to find though. In NH all the liquor is sold "outlet" style by the govt. You can usually get most anything, but I really had to look to find it. Found one store with 3 bottles up in the white mountains and bought 2 out of the 3.

True enough. I tried several places this past weekend and SOL . I am on a waiting list. They should have had a special release

for Makers bourbon ambassadors. I've been one since 2002.

Been looking for this for ages :( (well a couple of months to be completely honest ;)) Huge Makers Mark fan and would love to try this! Should be able to find it sooner or later!

Finally found a bottle at the liquor store this past weekend. Upon opening , I like the cork style cap, loads of vanilla on the nose.

I poured 2 fingers and sat down on the deck with a Boli PC. First sip was quite good and not what I expected. I tend to chew my bourbon It seems to break it up in the mouth and open up more of the flavors.

Jason you are right on with the vanilla and caramel. I also got a nice cinnimon candy flavor on the finish.

Glad you enjoyed - agree with the cinnamon finish, which is a nice and long. What makes it really nice is there is no bitter after taste which is common with an oaky/spicy finish

I too am an Ambassador, well my wife is. One per household and all of that rubbish.

The first time I had this a friend bought it for me. Good friend no?

I agree with all of the tasting notes, especially the cinnamon finish. I read an old article on line from the distillery from before the intro. It told how and why they made it. They had been getting request for a special label of the good stuff for some time.

Makers maintained that all of their stuff was the good stuff so no need, but the pressure continued. The obvious choice was to age it longer, but because of the use of wheat in the recipe it does not get any better with more age. something to do with...well I don't remember why but something to do with the oak, so they came up with the wood stave's put into to barrel to artificially and a more oaky flavor with out the extra age.

Great article really, wish I could remember where I read it!

I'm glad you found some to try. Enjoy, and be sure to sign up on their web sight to be an ambassador if you haven't all ready done so...

Cheers,

Doc

I finished the bottle the other night, good to the last drop. I must get down to Kentucky and take the distillery tour.

I was able to get a bottle of this a couple months ago and I would say Jasons comments about it are spot on. To me the vanilla was very prominent in the 46, which was nice.

I don't drink a lot of whiskey, more of a rum guy, but I really enjoy the 46 with a little water and would certainly recommend it to anyone who enjoys bourbon!
