It's been a number of years since I really had any La Gloria Cubana cigars. But, earlier in the year, I was at a function and was able to enjoy a LGC Medaille d'Or No. 2 that was quite nice. Now, I'm not a fan of the long and skinnies, but it was a revitalizing change of pace to step away from some of the spicier, heavier flavours that I'm used to, and enjoy this lighter, grassy and floral treat.

So, since it's been a number of years, I'm looking to get a box or two for down the road, as a once-in-a-blue-moon treat to pull out of my humidor every now and again.

I see that Czar's still has Medaille d'Or No. 2's, and Tainos in 10's available still (these were phased out in 2002, were they not?). Also, my other retailer has all of the Medaille d'Or series still available in 25-boxes (not a lot of stock left though), as well as the Tainos available (haven't bothered to check out box codes yet).

So, for those on here who are bigtime LGC fans, what should I go for? I was honestly thinking of a box each of the No. 1's, the No. 2's, and then a 10-box of the Tainos. But, I'm wondering if there's good or bad there, if there's any date blocks I should watch out for, anything in particular I should really look for, etc.

Let me know your thoughts, guys and gals. Thanks.

Both the # 1's & # 2's are great in there own way...but don't overlook the # 4's great morning cigar...light, floral and very aromatic classy cigar.

The Taínos are still in production. I haven't smoked them in years, so I don't know what the current offering is like. Anyhow, the ones I had a decade ago were very nice, medium-bodied and a tad tangy. You should try the latest version, Keith, and let us know what it's like.

See, the #4's just seem like they would be TOO small of a cigar for me - I'm used to my corona gordas, robustos, piramides, etc. It just seems to slim to be up my alley. And, I'd be worried about a tight draw.

I thought the Tainos were discontinued in 2002??

LGC #1 are quite good. Have not enjoyed a 2 as yet.

Have you tried any of the others? Strong floral flavours, but generally mild body? Any draw issues that you've found with the #1's?

A new vitola - the biggest in the LGC range - called the Inmensos was scheduled to have been released to La Casa del Habano outlets earlier this year. That doesn't appear to have happened.

Yeah, I remember seeing about that - same idea as the Sublimes from other marques.

I'm just looking towards the "traditional" LGC - 1, 2, (maybe 3, 4's) and Tainos. Those are the ones that interest me on this right now - have to cut it down somewhat.

Pick-up some singles if you can then. Quality is top notch...low production cigar made at the Partagas factory. stock from 02 is very good across the line.

Nope...have some recent boxes from MAY 08

I've enjoyed the Nos. 1, 3 y 4. I have a box of the No. 1, and they are one of my favorite boxes. The Nos. 3 y 4 are a bit too small for me, but I love my No. 1s! I'm calmly awaiting a No. 2, as the lonsdale format is just right for me, and if they taste as good as the No. 1s, I'm all over that.

I have only enjoyed two singles in my time but both times I found no draw issues, in fact, a perfect draw in both.

The flavours were quite mellow and creamy with nuances of leather, honey, wood and fruit. The aroma of these was mainly fruity I'd say with a hint of tea.

Very much reminds me of the Punch Royal selection #11's.

I've never tried any of the other LGC's.

I've collected them all. The #3's and #4's are like baby birds, just small and delicate, but enormously delicious. Question: My first box of #1's was acquired back in '05, and it had a July '02 box code, the box I got this year has the same box code. What are the chances that they haven't made the #1 since 2002 and vendors have been selling the same stock for the past 8 years?

Okay, that just has nearly swayed me - I'm a fan of the RS11's (really, the only Punch I care for). If you say they're similar, I may have to give those a try.

The only LGC's I've had in the past have been #2's, #4's (with draw issues way back when), and then I'm pretty sure I had a Tainos way back when.

I may lean more towards #1 and #2 then.

I enjoy the Medaille D'or No 1, 2, and Tainos. I wouldn't purchase the number 1 online blind.

Granted, understood. You also appear to be a fan more of robustos and gordas and the like, more larger gauge stuff, so that helps Pres, thank you.

No, I understand blind - I have no worries there. But, I wish Czar's still had some #1's left - it would make things easier. ;)

That's interesting. Maybe depends on your vendor, and how fast of a mover they were for them.

Definitely go with the #1. Light bodied and delicious, with some floral notes and hints of honey, imo.

I'm a big fan of long and skinnies and the LGC No.1 and No.3 both do it for me :peace:

Based upon what you have told us though I wouldn't recommend the No.3 to you though. They have a magnificient flavour (for me they are much more flavourful than the No.1's with a great nutty overtone) but you have to be patient when you smoke them. You can't rush them overwise you will get a lipsmacking of tar. If you like thicker gauge cigars then you may not find these as enjoyable to smoke. I've also had occasional draw issues with these as well, probably 1 in every box or so.

The No.1 is much more floral and I've never had any draw problems with them. A great lunchtime cigar, delicate and grassy, immensely satisfying with an iced coffee on the balcony watching the world go by.

If you're lucky you can still find the No.1 and No.3 in boxes of 10, which may not be a bad way to sample them? Most retailers still have these vitolas available from years 2000-2002 - with almost 10 years of age on them these cigars are a treat. Highly recommended if you are looking for a change of pace cigar.
