laficion Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 I love to listen to some great Cuban SON once in a while or any cuban sounds when I'm sitting with a Mojito and enjoying a great cigar. If there's one group that I can't resist moving my body to when I hear them, especially in Cuba, It has to be LOS VAN VAN Great sounds, great " move your body" music . Do you ever listen to Cuban music ?? http://il.youtube.com/watch?v=_G67xDWeFBs
Colt45 Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 I'm a long time fan. I've quite a few CDs, but I guess my favorite group overall would be ¡Cubanismo! I also enjoy boleros, and have been listening to Lucrecia's "Mis Boleros" for some time. http://il.youtube.com/watch?v=g-fg6VOYrV4&...feature=related

laficion Posted August 28, 2010 Author Posted August 28, 2010 Puros, Gracias hermano, Lots of good stuff there.
bassman Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 "Cachieto" by Orlando Lopez, bassist for BVSC, is a really nice album. Of course as a bassist, I'm always impressed by good players.
CanuckSARTech Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 I recently got the "Hecho En Cuba" 3 CD box set - it's a great cross-section of Cuban music, very well thought out and organized. Of course, I've got a number of CDs on my computer of the common Cuban classics - Buena Vista Social Club, Machito, Barbarito Torres, etc. I also have a CD from "Los Bohemios", which was an amazing two-man accoustic group that we listened to when we were out at with a number of other couples eating at El Aljibe, during our last trip in 2006. Very good stuff. Also, Havana Club Foundatio has a few brand-themed but catchy tunes available for download on their webpage: http://www.havanaclubfoundation.com/en/rones_tragos.asp
puros71 Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Puros, Gracias hermano, Lots of good stuff there. Yeah those are pretty much what is popular in Cuba. To find out the artists or whats hot go to timba.com or directly to artex or egrem website for the catalogs. Also Itunes has most of the artists albums on there. Itunes essential: Buena Vista Social Club Essential Cuban Timba essentials Album: Habana Ahora Habana Ahora 2 and on putumayo records "Cuba."
Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I may be old-fashioned, but I like the music of the greatest Cuban composer, Ernesto Lecuona y Casado. Perhaps he is most famous for Malagueña (from the Andalucía Suite). Here is an orchestral version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYU57KcMZWI . As Lecuona was an accomplished pianist, he would have appreciated this version by the then 13-year-old Anthony Feldman: .
Ken Gargett Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 we have a few threads on this. i have a heap but i don't get the time i'd wish to listen as often as i'd like. occasionally listen to los van van - they have just toured brizzy. i do know that the cuban girls just melt at the mention of these guys, even though they have been around for a long time. afro-cuban all stars is a fave. have seen them and what was left of BVSC a few times in cuba. sensational. happy feet, indeed!

All beautiful and amazing now. Good luck in your construction work. Cheers.
