Mel Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 The Hoyo that Rob are referring to are the 04 EL and when they came out he was high as hell on them urging me to not buy two boxes but SEVEN! HaHa. I bought two and think they are ok but not in the bottom three. I have not gone for all the EL and Regional crap so I have not smoked alot of what has been cursed on but I bet if I had I would agree. The Cohiba Maduro line is a total mistake. I mean hell how are you going to better a CoRo or Espy?????? The Partagas P2 do NOT taste like any Partagas and I wanted to love them like another poster mentioned but alas more helpings of **** does not improve the taste of ****. R&J Short Belicoso. Thank God I only have one left. Talk about a yard gar that taste like nothing. Ball-less waste of lighter fluid.
Ken Gargett Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 i see the P2 is getting a bad wrap. my experience has been mixed but had one the other day with a few years age and really was a cracker. couldn't fault it.
asmith Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 1. monte C's. 03 i think. utter disgrace. We still have several boxes of these if you want Ken, we can do you a good price.
Ken Gargett Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 We still have several boxes of these if you want Ken, we can do you a good price. smithy, not surprised you have more left. hard to sell dog turds. as for a good price, i doubt that even moneybags ayala has enough dosh to pay me to take any.
Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Wow I'm surprised a lot of you don't like the EL's I've had some amazing EL's from years gone by like the Monty Robusto 2006 is amazing now (I wasn't impressed by it two years ago though) Come to think of it, the Montecristo Robusto EL of 2001 is fantastic!
almudawi Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Interesting topic. My bottom three are: 1- any Hoyo (tasteless smoke/hot air) 2- vegueros especiales no. 2 3- Cuaba EL 08
Michel1968 Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Well, without jumping the bandwagon, Maduro 5 and Monty Open for sure. RyJ Duke EL 2009, now my palate had that as a complete pointless edition.
mkz Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 1- any Hoyo (tasteless smoke/hot air) Ouch! Have you tried the Des Dieux??
bassman Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I've actually enjoyed a lot of the older ELs. For me, Bolivar Collasales Bolivar DCs Cohiba Maduros The only reason I don't list Monte Open is the couple I've smoked have been free. The ones listed I actually bought.
MontrealRon Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 The only reason I don't list Monte Open is the couple I've smoked have been free. Still too expensive. Time is money.
almudawi Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Ouch! Have you tried the Des Dieux?? Haven't tried this to be honest. I doubt the local la casa del habanos would sell them as singles though. My experience with hoyo is limited to epicure no 2s, petite robustos, and ELs. I'll pop in tomorrow to check whether they have them available.

If they have some singles still, give them a shot. -Piggy
thechenman Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Des Dieux are amazing cigars. Love them. And I'm not just saying that because it was my first CC.
micha Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 The Cohiba Maduro 5 doesn't surprise me that it is on the list. I have had some cracker Secretos and Genios. I have also had some shockers. I look at a lot of boxes every month and the sheer variability of wrapper/constuction astounds me. It was a great concept gone to seed due to incompetence. I still find great boxes. However it is a 1 in 2 exercise. I still very much enjoy a great Genios or Secretos (never had a Magicos I liked) but I can understand the angst toward this line. I'm actually a bit shocked. Just ordered a box of Genios'. I just had two of them up to now and really liked that sweet, chocolaty taste. I can see the point though that it might not be Cohiba-like (didn't really have that many that I could make a statement 'bout that) and more of a NC style, so why buy an expensive cuban for that taste. Nevertheless, I really hope I'll get the crackers from Lisa and will still be enjoying them.
CanuckSARTech Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 1. Cohiba Secretos, if I wanted an NC, I'd go get an NC.2. Montecristo Sublime, underfilled with little taste. 3. Trinidad Ingenios, I waited three years to smoke these since their first release. I was pretty disappointed at the one-dimensional taste profile that doesn't resemble a CC. Wow, that's interesting. All those are beautiful, in most opinions. I have and enjoy each of them, although I'll agree a bit in that the Ingenios aren't perfect, but they should develop into something amazing within another 2 to 3 years or so. But the Secretos and the Sublimes are both amazing. You must have got some sub-par sticks then.

Didn't like the others too much, but I have two boxes of the Secretos, and they're really starting to grow on me - developing a nice plume now, in the one box so far. They're a split apart with the box codes, but they're practically identical, and the enjoyment of these is top notch. The Secretos are the best, that's for sure.
CanuckSARTech Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 The cigar that I detest the most is the Partagas Deluxe tubos. Had some of those once a long time ago, and was just utterly disgusted and disappointed with them. The Montecristo Open, and the Trinidad Petit Robusto LE 2010 are up there. I haven't smoked either, so it's really hard to say, but I don't see the point with either. Funny posts all around though - I think many that have been mentioned (SPN2, Cuaba Piramides EL, Monte Sublime, Trinidad Ingenios) are all steller. Makes one wonder if it's just a tastes thing, if some people's palates aren't preferential to some of the heavier stuff.

My point about those is that they add nothing to the Trinidad line. For the same price or even cheaper one can get an excellent 12 ct box of Fundadores, a superior cigar. My objection to the SP2 has more to do with what I believe Partagas, as my favorite marca, should be able to achieve. I have had many SP2. They have not had the strength or complexity of some of my favorite Partagas vitolas. I agree that the Secretos can be an interesting smoke. I am concerned about how this maduro line will continue to age, and I think the Magico vitola was a mistake all the way around. Sometimes with RE/LE/special cohiba releases the frustration has more to do with the hype and price point versus excellent cigars already in standard production.

I didn't necessarily mean the Ingenios are strong, but more...different from the other Trinidad. And, they don't necessarily need to ADD something to the line - that's why they're an EL. But, that they exhibit certain trademarks of the particular marca, and then move it a step off the beaten path, to see what can be created, like a science experiment. And yes, like Frankenstein, it can go horribly, despicably wrong. More wrong than right, no arguments there. And your last point, about the hype and price point? Ohhhhh, COMPLETELY! It tends to overshadow the excellence that is already available. (But...I am guilty, once in a while. Cuaba Piramides, case in point - just love them [aside from a recent dud!]).
eman67 Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Cohiba Maduro Secretos RA Asia Estupundos Bolivar Gold Medals
eman67 Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Any one with a second band that says:Edicion Limitada Have you had the 2010 Partagas EL? It is awesome!
dcse Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Anything Cuaba. Would rather have quality perfectos with the other marcas.

ahbroody Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Really suprised to see the PSP#2 getting a bad wrap. I love them and the Shorts. I think as someone mentioned some of this may be pallet based. I think the Monte 2 is a waste compared to PSP2 or Upman2. I understand the profile with the monte 2 it just does nothing for me and bores me to tears, but I really dont like Montes except the 4 As for me Cohiba Maduros. I struggled to finish a Secreto one of the worse sticks I have ever had. 2 dollar NC Sancho Panzas are better. Monte PE and the Open line Trini 07 EL
