KB24 Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Pulled out a couple singles from the humi today to find some slight mold. Checked all the boxes and everything was fine. Removed some of the singles from the drawers and can see some white powdery mold on some of the wood also. Anyone with Aristocrats seen this before? Not too concerned just need to rotate the singles more often I guess and clean the humi out more often. -Patrick

Removed the ones with mold, wiped down the area, and now I rotate them and inspect more often. Nothing else happened...
KB24 Posted August 1, 2010 Author Posted August 1, 2010 Patrick, I have seen it in mine when keeping singles untouched for months at a time. Going to give the entire humi a courtesy wipe down tonight and see what happens. Thanks for the heads up. -P
tugboat Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 The same thing happened in my Aristocrat Plus 48 but at a more catastrophic level. Ended tossing out about $300.00 worth of Cuban cigars. I kept the temperature at 68 ۫ and the humidity at 68%. While I have wild swings with the room temperature due to my work schedule. The average Delta T (Maximum available temperature drop from ambient) is still within range. After calibrating my various hygrometers with a Bóveda Humidity Control Packet I found the cabinet’s hygrometer spot on. In another words everything was working like it was suppose too. I talked to Bob about this and explained that the problem was only affecting the single unwrapped cigars in the top drawer and towards the back of the drawer more than the front. I thought it was a lack of circulation due to maybe me cramming every nook and cranny in the cabinet with a cigar but that’s another story we’ve all heard about so many times. Bob explained to me that it was due to too much air circulating around those “naked” cigars. Those peliter units blow air upward towards that area of the cabinet. He suggested I cover or line the slotted bottom of that drawer with the thin cedar you find in cigar boxes and cover over on top of the cigars as well. I took everything out of the cabinet and wiped down the inside with isopropyl alcohol, vacuumed and repeated twice. Same with the drawers and let everything air out for 36 hours. Removed all of the affected cigars and isolated them from the rest. Put everything back together and raised the temperature to 70 * and slowly raised the humidity back up to 65% but had to go back to work so I left it at that until I get home and see what happens. My conclusion to all this is due to the temperature difference in the room while I’m gone causes the units to run more thus the excess air circulating over those cigars. I’m confident Bob’s remedy will prevent this problem from “growing” again. I’ve learned that it takes more than money to make sure my “vegetable matter” stays healthy and ages with dignity. I hope this prevents others from the heartache I went through.
KB24 Posted August 1, 2010 Author Posted August 1, 2010 I keep things at 65/65. Yeah the mold was on the cigars kept in the pull out drawer towards the back. Thanks for the heads up. -P
