ammarhaider01 Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 I just received my first order from czar I didn't think it would only take 3 days to get from Australia to Jordan but I'm glad that the mail service decided to become so efficient here The order includes a selection of samplers, since I never tried any of these before: H. UPMANN MAGNUM 48 LIMITED EDITION 2009 POR LARRANAGA LIMITED ROBUSTO RE 2007 RAMON ALLONES SPECIALLY SELECTED HOYO DE MONTERREY EPICURE NO.2 SAINT LUIS REY REGIOS ROMEO Y JULIETA "DUKE" 2009 SINGLES JUAN LOPEZ SELECCION NO.2 I'll let them rest for a while and I'll start firing them up, but which from the above is your favourite and why? P.S: Thank you Lisa
jquest63 Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Now that's a great sampler! Being that I've not smoked 2 from this list, I'd start with those first. Also, have a box of the PL Limited Robusto 2007 that is resting. Although it is a very good smoke now, it has a tremendous potential that time will likely bring out. Smoke in good Health! H. I know the longer the better but not before a week I'm guessing, no?
bob25 Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 My rule is letting them rest for a month before I light one,but I cant say I didn't break that rule so many time. Its hard waiting to try and smoke one,so 2 weeks and more is preferable. Enjoy your cigars, great selection. RASS is an amazing smoke.
Habanakane21 Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Great mix of cigars. I haven't tried the "Dukes" or the Por Larranaga's. You'll be extremely happy with the Ramon Allones. These are my "go to" cigar. Have been for years. Happy Smoking!!!
jquest63 Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Thanks for the info jquest, I'm really looking farward, but I'll leave them to rest a bit, how long should I leave them sit? I know the longer the better but not before a week I'm guessing, no? I usually let rest for at least a week to allow the tobacco to stabilize somewhat, however I've smoked many upon arrival. Whether or not there has been a significant improvement by resting a week vs. a month is arguable. In general, depending on the cigar, have found that longer term storage of 6 months to several years at appropriate conditions has improved my smoking experience. In my experience, have had excellent smokes immediately upon receipt as well as mediocre and terrible. Not sure if that was a result of transit conditions or indicative of the true state of the cigar prior to shipment. Sorry to say I have not done a good job of recording all my experiences in detail enough to make a definitive judgement. Let your taste buds and olfactory be your guide. Smoke in good Health!

I love the Ramon Allones Specially Selected, great flavors, have several boxes, smoke prob. 2 a week. Juan Lopez Seleccion No. 2 is also enjoyable, that is an everyday quality smoke. The Por Larrana Limited Robusto is also a nice treat, have probably a handful left. Saint Luis rey Regios is also nice, although I prefer the Double Corona, but it shows similar flavors.
ammarhaider01 Posted July 17, 2010 Author Posted July 17, 2010 Great advice guys, thank you I'm not sure if I can wait a month to let them rest, I'll wait a week or so and then I'll try and see how they go, I'll keep you all posted! Thanks again
investandprosper Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 The Mag 48 ELs are smoking great right now, I'd start with that one!
Wicky Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Like others, I really like the Roman Allones. Once upon a time.
ammarhaider01 Posted July 18, 2010 Author Posted July 18, 2010 Congrats! But we need to see some pictures I'll do a photo shoot later today and post it
Kangaroo495 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Probably the best on the list (for me) would be the Mag 48, by a very slim margin. Next would be RASS, followed by JL2. They're all pretty easy tasty smokes (JL can be very full). The Regios can be glorious, but in my experience, it requires A LOT of rest in the humi before smoking. You'll have your hands full with that one! I smoked a lovely JL2 on Saturday, while watching a Cuban group "Los Van Van" play some tunes Was a great smoke!
thechenman Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Nice selection of smokes you got there in your sampler. Of the list you presented, I have to say that I haven't smoked the RyJ Duke yet. Have some, but haven't gotten around to them yet....I don't know if that says something about the cigar, or my expectations of it. Oh well...anyway, I would smoke in the following order, from best IMHO, to worst...not that any are bad...well be forwarned, I am not a JL fan. 1. H. Upmann Magnum 48 EL 2009 2. Por Larranaga Robusto ER 2007 3. Ramon Allones Specially Selected 4. Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2 5. Saint Luis Rey Regios 6. Juan Lopez Seleccion No. 2 No recommendation on the Duke as I have yet to smoke one myself....enjoy!
ammarhaider01 Posted July 19, 2010 Author Posted July 19, 2010 Thanks for the feedback Kangaroo and chenman, I'm sensing there's an agreement on both the magnum 48 and RASS, so the next big question to all veterans out there, which would you get a box of..or more
thechenman Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Thanks for the feedback Kangaroo and chenman, I'm sensing there's an agreement on both the magnum 48 and RASS, so the next big question to all veterans out there, which would you get a box of..or more If it were between the Mag 48 and the RASS...as much as I like the Mag 48, I think the bolder flavor profile of the RASS gives it a better shot at long-term aging. Of course if you are just accumulating a few boxes to smoke up over the next year or two...I'd go with the Mag 48. Oh...I forgot to mention in my earlier post...with extremely few exceptions...I wait 30 days before breaking into a box or smokes that were shipped to me.
ammarhaider01 Posted July 19, 2010 Author Posted July 19, 2010 Right, so as promised, here goes the photos of the cigars I bought, I got a couple of each but I only used one of each for the "photo shoot"
