USE Mar 08

08, in my opinion, has been the year of the Upmanns. Mag 46/50/Connie 1/Sir Winston - have all been stellar. Lets see if the PC can keep this trend going...

Beautiful looking smoke, lightly box pressed with a sweet tobacco draw at cold. A little restrictive, but nothing unusual for a habano.

She opens up under medium and the taste is a mix of almonds and sweet leather (think baseball glove). There is really no spice through the nose and the finish is quick and clean.

Second third is just like the first; flavors come and go. The smoke is cool and smooth.

The final third reveals some deeper, more complex nut flavors along with some darker sweet leather. It is just under medium. The final third has been the most enjoyable.

87 Overall a very nice cigar, but the complexity really did not evolve until the final third. Let's see what some time will do to bring out some more depth and flavor. Closest to the Connie 1 in flavor, but much more subtle.

Funny, I haven't tasted baseball glove since I chewed on the straps of mine after being assigned to right field after being asessed a poor fielder in high school, but then I snagged a torrid line drive one afternoon and got moved to centerfield. It was busier there, no time to chew. I never returned to right field again, even through college.

I'm loving the H. Upmann Mag 50's, even though we were in Havana at Festival when they introduced them and Ken said they were a winner. Well, he thinks that about the Washington Redskins, too, so you know you have to be doubtful sometimes!

Great review. I like the Upmann PCs. Had a couple recently and although they weren't spectacular they were very solid smokes.

Agree Wil that it is a solid smoke, however, it needs a bolster in flavor for the first two thirds for me to get really excited about them...hopefully they become that with some age.
