I love full flavor cigars, but when I get up in the morning and get my cup of coffee and look for a good smoke my taste goes to something mild with a boat load of cream. I usually reach for a La Gloria Cubana Tainos. I am intrested in what other members smoke with their first cup of joe in the A.M. and why?

Always have smoked HDM Epi 1's and 2's in the A.M. Nice and creamy to go with that coffee. Picked up a recent box of JL Sel # 1 on a recommendation from El Prez. They are perfect for the morning. Loads of sweet cream.

Being retired if I'm smoking that day I'll always have a cigar after morning coffee. Perfectly happy to smoke a strong one, but if I'm in a mellower mood LGC Tianos or MdeO#2s work, as well as RyJ Belicosos.

While I really like a Tainos. Its a bit long winded for me in the morning. I guess I could get up earlier! :lookaround: I've been going for HdM DDs. I smoke the first half on the way to work and the rest on the way home. Since my flavor changes through the day it's like two cigars in one!

Lately, been smoking SCDH Principe and PLPC with morning coffee. Find they both complement coffee well, both are relatively complex and can complete smoking within my 45-1 Hr. commute.

I actually prefer something spicier in the morning to 'wake me up' - i normally go party shorts or dip 4.

I have yet to enjoy a cigar before lunch. Lunch time cigar only when time permit. Any size really. Depends on mood, wheather, company etc.

There is no typical "morning" cigar. It still depends on time, mood and activity. One of the best cigars of the morning has been while turkey hunting and a BGM comes to the front of my mind. A nice Sig III has the right size to be the perfect cigar to start the day if time allows. More often than not time is a factor and a smaller cigar is needed.

I don't often smoke early in the day, but when I do, I go for whatever strikes my fancy at the time. Here's a link to a similar thread:

As OP on the linked thread I was looking for suggestions for a "Cheap & Cheerful" morning cigar, and thinking it needed to be on the lighter side. Got a lot of good recommendations, though not all of them necessarily "cheap".

I've found that the San Cristobal El Principe suits me extremely well, morning, noon & night. I probably wouldn't have bought them if I hadn't been on the hunt for a breakfast smoke, but I'm sure glad I did.

Surprisingly, Party Shorts have also been a great way to start the day.

The El Principe's are a bit fuller than I expected and the Shorts seem the be a med-full, rather than balls-out full (as often billed). The two are both really good and quite comparable in strength & body, though with distinctly different flavor profiles.

I guess the moral to the story is that I didn't need to lighten up from my preferred profile as much as I thought (if at all) just because it's the first cigar of the day.

OTOH, I've also found lately that I can appreciate some lighter blends more than I used to, and not just for mornings. I think this comes from smoking more CC's recently. I've rarely found a mild NC that I like, but CC's are a whole different ball-game.

I have to say that I quite enjoy many of the more-mild CCs. I find that there a so many complex flavor nuances that you can pick out on the milder sticks that make them more complex IMHO, than you would not get with stronger cigars. A great example for me would be the HdM Epicure Especial I smoked yesterday. Simply amazing in the nuances you can detect. I even tasted a hint the "Stone Fruit" Ken talks about in so many cigars. A first for me. Also gotta agree with you on the Party Shorts and SCdLH El Principe. My two favorite cigars of this vitola. Simply fantastic cigars...that make for great winter smokes here in the Northeast.
