El Presidente Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Tonight is the second Rugby League game (series out of III) of STATE of ORIGIN where the mighty Queenslanders (representing the fine state of Queensland!) take on the forces of darkness of the state of New South Wales (also known as the Blues, cockroaches, pond scum ). We win tonight and we take the series and a 5 consecutive series wins State of ORIGIN Parties abound! I will crack a Hamlet for the game. GO The Mighty Queenslanders !!!!!! The toughest game of all
El Presidente Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 ..and one for history. The greatest try in State of ORIGIN History....Queensland behind, one minute left in the game
Ken Gargett Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 how can they do a big hits highlight tape without the king on gary jack? could watch the tallis ragdoll tackle every day. and the miracle try - ranks with eales' sideline goal as a great moment in aussie sport. and if the glorious maroons don't come home victorious tonight against the pondscum, then it will be compelling evidence as to the lack of any just and fair divinity after the hayne disgrace, the geoff carr idocy and the johns racism scandal. what a buildup. maroons by 50 please.
Ben Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Even as a proud New South Welshmen I must admit that Tallis tackle was absolutely awesome stuff.
Ken Gargett Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 We won't win tonight put it this way elie, if your mob do get up, it will be jam jars for you as well as rob tomorrow. i am nothing if not suitably vindictive!!
badaboom Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 what's with the little *** boy shorts? bunch of sissies
BobLobLaw Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 How much do pro rugby players make? Is it like pro sports in the US?
Ben Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Star League players make a couple of hundred grand a season Bob. Minor League Baseball level.
El Presidente Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 Star League players make a couple of hundred grand a season Bob. Minor League Baseball level. top league players make $500k + endorsements. Average professional league players make $250. First year rookies $75-100. One more.
LeafLover Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Wow! A very physical sport. Curious. What is the average career time-wise for a Rugby player?
El Presidente Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 Wow! A very physical sport.Curious. What is the average career time-wise for a Rugby player? The average player if he stays relatively free of injury is 8-10 years. You can go 12-13. Plenty gone at 3-4 due to injury.
Ken Gargett Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 what is extraordinary about slater (aside from the fact that he was dropped shortly after that and possibly even for the next game) is that so often, at club and origin level, he times the run to absolute perfection by a millimetre. freakish.
ZinZan Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 That try was amazing!! Isn't he the guy who gifted the kiwis the world cup? He made a really bad pass, if i remember correctly.
Fuzz AI Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Well, that cuts it. 28 to zip. I give up, nothing left to see. I'm not in to S&M, so there's no point watching NSW get even more of a flogging.
Ben Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 It's also extraordinary how incredibly dirty a player Slater is. Sliding bootfirst into heads, elbows into the back of the neck, the constant over the top sledging and he gets away with it! He's the Michael Schumacher of Rugby League that bloke.
Ben Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Oh and this Blues team is thoroughly embarrassing. Seriously they should forfeit Game 3 and save face.

maalouly Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Ken I guess I will be drinking from your Krystal glasses?

bunburyist Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 1st half was great - couple of tasty opening tries and a little bit of biff. Love it
BobLobLaw Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Ok, so they make pretty solid money. As for that last video can someone explain the second kick? I know nothing about rugby, but it was pretty obvious that the first kick was to get the ball through the defensive line while sending one man downfield to get it instead of being available for a pass. The second kick (while very impressive) just seems way to risky given that he really had already beaten his man and just needed to cut it back to the middle. Kinda want to see a pro rugby match sometime. Will have to time a czar visit in season!

He could have cut back on the inside but every cut loses you speed and he had three defenders to beat in traffic. Naturally those defenders are moving towards him. kick over the top and the defenders need to change direction momentarily which buys slater the metre he needs to get to the try line first. Risky ...yes...Brilliant...absolutely.
asmith Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Ken I guess I will be drinking from your Krystal glasses? The Jam Jars might be cleaner. I was at the game and that was not pretty, I demanded 50% of my ticket price back as only one team turned up to play.
