smll2 Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Go Lakers....sitting here with a RYJ EL 2004 and a cold one...and the family. This is as great as NBA basketball gets. Many say this will come down to PG versus KG....
Habanakane21 Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Absolutely....2 legendary franchises. This one is gonna be a great one...It's THE LAKE SHOW FYI. I'm sitting here drink a Hawaiian Primo Beer and lighting up a H.Upmann No.2.
KurtE Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Used to love the NBA before I figured it was rigged and fixed so much. You lakers fans remember 2002 game 6. Disgusting. I used to be a spurs fan and I can admit they had games fixed
thechenman Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Congrats to the Lakers for a great win Yesterday! Looking forward to Sunday night... Go Lakers!
Erm310mce Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Someone has to represent the East! I guess winning 17 Champoinships will make the Celtics the hated ones Tough loss for us last night, but we will be back. I'm predicting Celts in 6! Or at least I hope , LA is tough this year and may have more desire, Celts look a little tired, but I'm pulling for them. Luckily for the NBA I find the level of play in these playoffs has been much higher then recent years, very entertaining this year! Can't wait for Sunday night.

It was crazy to see what happend last night. I don't understand why the Celts didn't show. I believe they will show up on Sunday ready to go. As far as I can tell since 1980 The Lakers have appeared in in 16 finals and the Celts in 7. During that time frame the Lakers have won 9 championships and the Celtics 4. I hate the Celtics most for the loss in the finals in 1984. That loss was a killer. The Lakers of course came back to win in 1985. The Celtics owned the Lakers and the league prior to 1980. The Lakers have been the dominant team in the NBA over the past 30 years. Yes...the Celts have 17 championships...the Lakers 15....going on 16. (Fingers crossed) Looking forward to Sunday. Go Lakeshow. May the best team win!!!

With all due respect, I don't think any one dominated the celtics in the 80s, The 86 Celtics may be the best basketball team of all time. Yes, the Lakers won with a great team in the 80s but they didn't dominate Boston at all. Those series were the best basketball the NBA has seen. After Magic retired in 1991ish? I think the Lakers had some seasons where they only won 30 to 40 games? MJ and the Bulls were the dominate team in the 1990s. The Lakers didn't really come back until Kolbe and Shaq showed up. They went on a nice run winning 3. I think they were quicker to rebuild from the 80s then the celtics, but the Celts had some bad luck with Len Bias and Reggie Lewis. Two great teams looking forward to a great series. Cheers mate, It is great to see the Boston/LA battle again, we missed it for a long time.
LeafLover Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I've been a life-long Celtic fan. The 80's team was the best: Bird (my favorite basketball player of all time), Ainge, DJ, Parrish, Mchale. Those days against the Lakers were epic battles. Back and forth, back and forth. Lakers makes a basket, Celtics makes a basket. It was because of this rivalry that made me a life-long Laker-hater. Kind of tough as I live in Laker territory. Anyway, I think the Celtics had good momentum coming into the finals after beating the Cavs and the Magic. But, frankly they looked flat in the first game. I kept shouting to the TV "Get in the game!" Especially to KG. And, Allen got into foul trouble early and Pierce just looked shy to pull the trigger. Rondo came to play. I was happy to see Wallace get all hyped up in the 4th quarter. Was playing with emotion. But Doc is a great coach. We gotta pull one out in LA tomorrow. I want a championship this year like the ones we had with the Lakers in the 80's. Both teams are evenly matched. I'm afraid though, that when Kobe gets in a zone, it'll be tough for us. Gasol is playing incredibly. Hopefully, it will be a great championship. Two years ago when the Celts beat the Lakers in the championship, I had mixed emotions: elated that Boston won but disappointed in the Lakers. They looked like they just laid down and did nothing in the end. I'm hoping to watch a battle this year. Good luck and may the best team win!!
LeafLover Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Paul Pierce partying in style during victory parade '08. KG was smoking a Gran Reserva as well.

Since the 1979-80 season to present the following has occured: Lakers 17 appearances in the final...9 championships Chicago 6 appearance in the final....6 championships. Boston 7 appearances in the final...4 championships. Repectfully I think it's fair to say the Lakers have dominated the NBA over the past 30 years. Chicago had a great run...with Michael. They were never seen before him...and they haven't been since. The Celts were great in the early and mid 80's but they were quite until 2008. The Lakers won 5 championships in the 80's and the Celts won 3. The Lakers have appeard in more than half of all the NBA finals in the last 30 years. The Lakers organization has been the the most successful franchise over the past 30 years. The balance of the NBA history has the Celts appearing in 14 finals and winning 13 championships. The Lakers appeared in 15 finals during the same time frame and won I think 6....which points to the Celts early domination of the league. Looking very much foward to tomorrow night!!!! Good luck to both teams.

OK, well I guess we are going to disagree on this, just like most fans of both sides In the 80s, the 5 rings vs 3, that was so close to being 4 and 4, that baby hook in '87.... The 4 in the 2000s with Kolbe make all the difference in your numbers, I would say they have been dominate in the 2000s, but not the last 30 years. To me domination is a run like the early celtics when no other team had a chance. Good luck my friend, tonight is going to be fun.
Yoruba Hacker Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Paul Pierce partying in style during victory parade '08. KG was smoking a Gran Reserva as well. That is an interesting picture. Pierce and San Cassell are members of my cigar lounge, and the guys frequently come by after home games. I've seen the box that those came from and was a bit disturbed by it. First because the box itself was a size I've never seen. Somewhere between a DC EL and a Sublime. Second, because the box says they are "Cohiba Sublime Extra," which we know only ame in the Book format. Lastly, as you see, there are black "Reservas" bands on them, and again, we know the Resevas were the multi-size 30-count boxes. The cigars themselves were huge and looked Sublime-sized, but all the same size. A lot bigger than Gran Reservas, which we know weren't around in '08. Oh well. Happens to everyone, I guess. I never said anything to them about it. Hope they like them. Big game tonight. It will be virtually impossible to win all the games at the Garden, especially given that the Celts aren't a great home team. Fingers crossed. Strange for me to root for the Celtics who I've hated as long as I've been a basketball fan. But these guys are good kids, and easy to root for. Not like the 80's teams, who were jerks and bullies.
LeafLover Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Great game last night. Rondo and Big Baby had a great game. Allen was on fire. Still waiting on Pierce and KG to get in the game. I'm hoping they aren't just waiting to bring their game when they play at home. Because I think this game is gonna come back to LA.
Mr.T Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I agree, what a game last night. Rondo and Allen were so much fun to watch. Even though Pierce didn't show up offensively I was really impressed with his hussle and defensive game last night. He did so much off the ball that contributed to the victory. The only thing that dissapointed me were the refs..I thought the calling was very inconsistent and all over the place, but hey what's new!....This will be a great series
smpf67 Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Who cares about the NBA.....GO BLACKHAWKS!!!! Besides, Jordans Bulls were the best run in NBA history ever! If only he hadn't retired for two years in between championships (double three-peat), and if he played just a few more years afterwards!
KurtE Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 The only thing that dissapointed me were the refs..I thought the calling was very inconsistent and all over the place, but hey what's new!....This will be a great series the fact that its just accepted that the officiating is going to be inconsistent and average is the hallmark of the NBA unfortunately.
smll2 Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 The Lakers pulled one out tonight not unlike the Celts getting one game in LA. Team defense, rebounds and the Fish were the difference tonight. Kobe was solid on both sides of the ball...to be expected. These teams are evenly matched. Allen will get his points on Thursday. Lots of basketball to play. I hope both teams stay healthly. This is a battle. Boston will go for broke on Thursday. Boston's bench is scary. Good Luck to both teams.!!!
LeafLover Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Fish won the game for the Lakers. Great for him. KG played well, Rajon played well, Big Baby played well, Pierce couldn't get into the game because of his foul troubles, and Allen...well. This loss really hurt. We have to take the next two or else will be pretty tough to win this championship in LA.
smll2 Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 Three rounds to go! You gotta love this game!!! For sure...but it's more enjoyable when your team wins
KurtE Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Its at its most enjoyable when the officiating isn't rubbish which I guess is a rarity for this league, if you can even call it that.
