El Presidente Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Fidel Castro claims Obama lives in fantasy world By WILL WEISSERT (AP) http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/articl...yqPamQD9G38G8O0 HAVANA — Fidel Castro speculated Wednesday that a nuclear strike on Iran might help President Barack Obama win a second term in the White House and also suggested the United States could attack North Korea. The former leader of Cuba, who has not been seen in public for nearly four years, also portrayed the U.S. president as a victim of fantasies planted in his mind by sinister advisers. The column published by Cuban state media floated the idea that a nuclear attack on Iran — perhaps even without U.S. authorization — might help Obama win re-election in 2012. "Could Obama enjoy the emotions of a second presidential election without having the Pentagon or the State of Israel, whose conduct does not in the least obey the decisions of the United States, use nuclear weapons against Iran?" he asked. "How would life on our planet be after that?" It's a question he did not answer, nor did he elaborate. Castro also referred to "the current danger North Korea could be attacked by the United States" because of "the recent incident that happened in that country's waters" — apparently a reference to allegations that North Korea attacked and sank a South Korean warship, killing 46 sailors. Castro, 83, said China might be able to block such an attack by using its veto in the U.N. Security Council, implying that Washington was likely to seek that body's authorization before a move against North Korea. The government of North Korea has denied involvement in the torpedo attack near the countries' sea border in March. During a visit to Seoul last month, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the North should face international consequences for the sinking. Castro often has praised Obama in recent years, but painted him as a pawn of the global capitalist machine on Wednesday. "President Obama can give hundreds of speeches, trying to reconcile contradictions that are irreconcilable ... dreaming of the magic of his well-articulated phrases," he wrote. But Castro said Obama "makes concessions to personalities and groups totally lacking in ethics and draws fantasy worlds that only fit in his head and that unscrupulous advisers, knowing his tendencies, plant in his mind."
El Presidente Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 Fidel really knows his stuff! Yes....he is hardly on the cutting edge of current political debate. More just on the edge
Trevor2118 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 It used to be that politicians just resorted to pork-barreling to win elections......lets hope nuclear attacks never get on the agenda?
El Presidente Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 Trev, elections have never really featured in Fidel's world of expertise He has really gone "out there" in recent articles. One suspects a Fidel article on Alien anal probes could not be far away.
Kangaroo495 Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Fidel Castro claims Obama lives in fantasy world Yeah - he lives in America. For most Cubans, that's exactly what it is.
bas Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Fidel is the last one from the "old school" Leaders. Saddam, Yasser, Churchill, Mussolini - they are all different people, may be good, may be bad, but they has amazing skill to speek by hours without paper (Fidel's record - 27 hours of speech). They has a skill to see a picture in general, not only at the moment. Thats why they were a genious politics of their time. It's a great pleasure to read Fidel's speeches or books.

Somewhat strange to see Churchill in this particular context and grouped together with Saddam and Mussolini. I would rather add Gadafi, Kim Jong Il and Ahmedinejad to the list of "old school" leaders. Neither have been famous for contributing to the wellbeing of their citizens or their support for democracy and freedom. All are (in)famous for their long and sometimes "colourful" speeches.

Well, I agree it's might be not correct, but these persons are really outstanding on the world stage... Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong Li??? May be, but not today. Trying to explain my view: May be we can admit everyone Leader like outstanding, but it woulnt be true. I was talking about people, who was trying to be an owner, to be main in their competence. And not to be a hostage of the situation. Afganistan, bouth Koreas, whole Middle East always was a Third World countries, but they were more independent, self-reliant... They didn't played their parts on a stage, they were real bandmasters. May be this is my mistake, but it's the way I con recall. For example, Yasser was ONLY person, who was able to accept a budget and bills of whole country! Just try to compare Chirac and Sarkozy, Churchill and Blair, Kohl and Merkel... Looking on the nowdays leaders I'm thinking about "incompetence cult" (I might mistake in translating a name of book, but it's word of word transliting)... Mussolini - like a bright spot in this company))) He was not only speeches, he was a real SHOW))) But much more intellectual then Berlusconi... P.S.: Everything - imho
chrisguinther Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 This is the same fantasy world where Fidel is still alive, I presume.
MontrealRon Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Sorry if I am swimming upstream on this one, and, sorry, Prez, I know we are not supposed to discuss the "O" guy - but you started it... In this case, I do believe that El Barbudo actually has a point...

I have not always agreed with everything Castro has had to say in the past, however in this case, he may have a point?!

In this case, I do believe that El Barbudo actually has a point... just to be clear, I started nothing. I posted a news article. If I see a post attacking any us politicion it will be deleted. The article reflects the current political mind of Fidel. No more no less.
