asmith Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Just been reading an article about alcohol consumption in Australia and they stated; Aussies consumed 3.56 litres of wine each in the year to 2009, the ABS said. Now did they misprint that or should that be daily rather than yearly, because that is the sort of wine we consume on a daily basis on the deck at Czars. Full Article
MIKA27 Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Would it seem low if the statistics are based on 'each' individual Australian? The current population is: 22,362,202

Fuzz AI Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 These stats do not take into account home brews, which has become increasingly popular over the years. And with the Govt's new idea of volumetric taxation on alcohol, consumption across all categories will fall. Then again, it would also mean super premium wines will drop in price dramatically. A $500 bottle of wine could drop in price by as much as $90. The downside is, your cask wine prices will sky rocket.

Ken Gargett Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Damn, thats some bad news for all wine cask drinkers... i would suggest it is thoroughly good news and way overdue but unless rudd wins the next election and introduces it very quickly, forget it, as there are more votes in not changing.
Ken Gargett Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 ps - that is way under the correct figure as i understand it. this from oct 2009. There are some benefits to the volumetric tax. It would make my job a helluva lot easier if I only have to deal with one single tax, than apply 13 different ones across multiple categories. Wines do stand to be the most affected , with anything under approx $27 going up and anything over coming down in price. On the plus for rum drinkers, you should be happy as the price will come down. I think there is little chance of this going through, and also little chance of Rudd having a second term. I mean, honestly, how wants a PM that looks like the Milky Bar Kid??

I mean, honestly, how wants a PM that looks like the Milky Bar Kid?? it is very very rare for a first term govt in australia, not to get another term. even whitlam got a second crack. been something like 70 or 80 years since ut happened. and when you have an opposition with a moron in charge who feds the govt their election ads ("i don't always tell the truth" - we knew that but if you are so stupid as to say it, do we really want you to lead the country?), then hard to see anything changing.
