Just had a visit from my very good friend from Australia- Victoria guy who barracks for the Richmond Tigers.Actually, he swears that Aussie footy is the very best sport in all of Australia. Owns a couple harness horses now .We've been friends now for 20 years, great to see him again and to see how well he has done.

collingwood not just worse, the worst. the great thing about this season is that the pies team are looking good, wrong end of the season and setting up their trailer trash fans for yet another gut wrenching choke.

as for the tigers, my sympathy. they are dire.

great quote from someone last week when the fuss about the storm salary cap cheating came out (for our offshore friends, the aussie rugby league comp has a salary cap for teams and the melbourne storm, the most successful team of the last 5 years, has been rorting it massively - hence, why they are the most successful. they got caught and lost both premierships and also all points from this season and while they are still in the comp, they get no points for a win so will end up last). a storm fan said that now he had to support his team all year knowing that no matter what happened, they'd finish bottom. a voice from the back, 'welcome to the world of richmond fans'.

The Pies are looking good. No reason why they can't go all the way this year. As a Hawthorn supporter (yeah, yeah) would love to see Geelong cough up another flag this year.

i mean trailer trash as a term of endearment, of course. actually, some of my best mates - far too many of my best mates - are pies fanatics and that comment is aimed at them (most of them wouldn't know a trailer if they fell over one). surprisingly number of winemakers are pies fans, especially from coonawarra. never worked out why.

so i will restrict my comments in future to matters like grand finals, 02 and 03 spring to mind.
