Gang,

Just wondering what you with more CC experience would advise? I am looking at picking up a 5'er of Cohiba Corona Especiales and Montecristo Especial No. 2 to store for my 10th and 15th wedding anniversaries. Now, I am aware of both being a Laguito No. 2 but are they the same cigar? Is it the same tobacco (Cohiba obviously gets a third fermentation)? Reason for getting 5'ers is to see the way the tobacco changes over the years, like the way life changes.

Thanks,

O

You apparently like thinner ring gauge, 38in. size smokes. I would say if you are looking at best possible aging speciales, a Diplomaticos (I know No. 4 is popular, I'm a No. 2 fan), and any H. Upmann, your choice.

Cohiba Coronas Especial and Montecristo Especial #2 are definitely not the same cigar. Both are enjoyable, but different. When they're "on", I wouldn't trade either one for the other. The MC is typically a bit fuller and a couple of bucks less. Both extremely refined, though the Cohiba perhaps slightly more so.

I couldn't pick between the two, myself. I applaud you for going with both. Are you planning to alternate years for your anniversary celebrations?

Edti: Oops! I misread the OP. I get now that this is for two specific dates down the road. I thought the intention was to have one of these each year (which isn't a half-bad idea!)

Definitely not the same cigar. Both are excellent choices. Go ahead and buy boxes.

Actually, you were correct in that they will be smoked from year 6 up to year 15. I'm just getting to year two in October so they will have some down time.

Thanks,

Boxes would be nice. That is a not totally out of the question but right now it isn't gonna happen. Got way to much stuff to do around the house in order to make it a home for my wife and daughter. Nice dogs in your pic, I got a G. Shepard but he's bald right now due to the heat in my neck of the woods.

cheers,

o
