thechenman Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I love sports, but am by no means a great athlete. Played a lot of tennis. Played baseball and football (U.S.) through high school. Played rugby for a few years in college after I was introduced to the sport. Lot's of fun...but baseball and football have always been my passions. I'm definitely more of a professional sports fan, over college... MLB - Los Angeles Dodgers NFL - New England Patriots NBA - Los Angeles Lakers NHL - Buffalo Sabres My son (7 yo) gave up on soccer after two years. He now plays baseball and ice hockey. Can't understand why he does not care for football.
riderpride Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Euro Football/Soccer - Arsenal NFL - Miami Dolphins (I blame Dan Marino for this one) CFL - Roughriders baby!!! NHL - Vancouver Canucks
Laxman Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Huge sports fan, being from NY of course most of my teams are from there. NFL- I am a die hard NY Giants fan, but I love the sport so much I can route for any team ( not playing the Giant of course). After football season I go into a depression till the start of the next season!! College Football-tough one, I have always been a Penn St. fan but also do love Florida and USC. Can pretty much enjoy any good game no matter who is playing. MLB- I am a Yankees fan, but with over a 160 games its hard to hold my attention. Pretty much catch a few games here and there and then the last few weeks of the season plus play-offs. NHL- Hockey I have been a Rangers for sometime but the last few seasons have not followed much hockey outside the Stanley Cup playoffs. NBA- was a Knicks fan but cmon!! They have been horrendous for longer then I can remember!! So I watch maybe a few games a year, and mostly when LaBron is playing. College Lacrosee- Huge Johns Hopkins Fan but can enjoy just about any game. Saturdays in the spring I watch whatever is on ESPNU. What would we do without sports?
ksblazer Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 NFL: Seattle Seahawks (I'm a season ticket holder) NBA: Portland Trailblazers (when the Blazers season ends, I quit watching the NBA Baseball: Seattle Mariners College Football Washinton Huskies College Basketball: Washington Huskies and what ever team John Calipari is coaching
BobLobLaw Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Love sports. Grew up playing tennis as parents did not endorse contact sports. Competitive drive came from primarily getting pasted without mercy by the old man. Common middle school conversations with Mom. "How was tennis with Dad?" Me: "Great, I almost won a game!" Just thrilled to lose 0-6, 0-6 in consecutive sets but take ONE game to deuce! That ended in high school and I give him credit b/c he was so happy when I started beating him. In college, took up lacrosse and it was fantastic. Actually ended up pretty decent considering no HS experience, solid crease midfielder who could quickstick (one timer) with both hands, and nice outside shot. Miserable defender. Played for a few years after college, but just not the same. Anyway, favorite sport to watch is football, By that I mean the NFL and Da Bears. College football is ok, but I spend so much time with pro that I just can't take up the entire weekend. Plus I HATE the bowl system. Will tune in for a major regular season game, but just not as pumped about college. Next is baseball and I am your usual Cubs fan. Have been since I was 8 and Jerome Walton/Dwight Smith were ROY and runner up. Next year is our year. NBA regular season is take it or leave it for me. I do get amped up for the playoffs though. I feel as though the reg season its too easy for players to take plays off and go easy. The playoffs always have that buzz/excitement/atmosphere and I find those games to be very entertaining, even when there are big leads. Suns down 18 late in game 3 in SA and coming back? Awesome Love March Madness, do not pay enough attention during the regular season. NHL - just can't get into it. Nor do I understand Nascar, but to each their own. Also I am not into MMA.
dizedean Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 NFL-Philadelphia Eagles (I bleed Green) MLB-Philadelphia Phillies NHL-Philadelphia Flyers College Footbal-Penn State I never watch soccer and rarely watch NBa basketball.

ARRV Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 cricket is undoubtedly the greatest game of all (not that 20/20 crap or even one-day rubbish but no game has the nuance, complexity, potential thrills and athleticism of an enthralling five day test).otherwise, may i start by saying the waratahs are not an aussie rugby team as rob has suggested but rather evil slime that has crawled from the nearest pus-ridden corpse hidden in a fetid drain and oozed on to a sporting field, with every single one of their players having sold their soul to the devil and condemned to an eternity of nothing but listening to whitney houston and drinking sauv blanc - and that simply makes them the aussie version of the dallas cowboys and man U. aside from that - the glorious reds (qld rugby) and by extension, the wallabies. the broncos (league) lions (aussie rules) arsenal the glorious redskins. Go the TAHS Although I must admit to being mighty impressed by the banjo players this year - great style of play (NSW coach) and they should have beaten us this year but for the ref who had a shocker. Maybe next year boys. Maybe. Nth Sydney bears in league but as they havent been around the top grade for years now it is difficult to follow them at all - although I am informed they play in the NSW cup or something similar to reserve grade. Bring back the bears. Cricket - unbeatable - test cricket is a metaphor of life - take batting - everyone against you, little to no help from team mates but they have to be there and 1 mistake costs you. Also 5 days and no result - what could be more apt. Simply wonderful. Go the TAHS

Azksig Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I love all sports even the ones I don't understand (cricket). My teams are as follows. College - University of Arizona (my alma mater) Since I was born in Columbus, I'm a huge Ohio State Buckeye fan. NBA - Phoenix Suns - Bring on the lakers :-) NHL - Phoenix Coyotes and St. Louis Blues. NFL - Arizona Cardinals Baseball - Arizona Diamondbacks and St. Louis Cardinals.
Habanos2000 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I'm a fair weather Chicago sports fan. Growing up a mile away from Wrigley, I consider myself a Cubs fan, but only by default as I can't stomach the Sox. As far as Chicago basketball is concerned, I think they should have retired the name "Bulls" once the Jordan dynasty ended. The Bears always seem to disappoint and I'm not much of a hockey or college sports fan. I'd have to say my favorite sports team is the football/soccer team FC Bayern Munich. I have family in Munich and got the bug right after the 2006 World Cup while visiting and touring the stadium. They've won the German title already, going for the Cup and then the Champions League trophy in Madrid on May 22nd when they'll beat Inter Milan. That'll be as sweet as downing ManU!
Wil Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Australian Rules: Hawthorn Cricket: Australia (but only the test and one day teams, hate that 20:20 rubbish) Golf: Geoff Ogilvy

Go the TAHS you are completely correct re cricket. re the nsw 'rugby' team (tahs? what a stupid name), i forgot to add that if they weren't the spawn of satan, even their mothers would disown them. they are the only thing that makes cheer harder for a kiwi team than even the kiwis do. go the hurricanes this week.
Smooth Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Oh lord... sports? where do I start? Teams: AFL: Richmond (from birth, will make marriage easier im told) NRL: Broncos Union: Reds NBA: Boston NHL: LA Kings/ NYR NFL: Arizona MLB: Boston Red Socks EPL: Liverpool PGA: Geoff Ogilvy (played a bit with him from 1996-1998, stellar bloke) F1: Red Bull Racing Playing: Played AFL, cricket and Union heavily until blowing both my knees when I was 15. Took up golf at 13. Played 6 games of ice hockey in melbourne. Played tennis and basketball on the side. Dabbled in high jump when a coach saw me dunk a basketball at school lunch time when i was also 15 and only 5'5'' tall, grew 12'' to 6'5'' in the next 14 months. PB at high jump was about 1.95-2.05m, lost interest. Competed in javelin, didnt like the shorts and the fact some kids came back from the AIS twice their size over summer. Got good at golf, played it exclusively through final years of high school with scratch handicap. Played off +2 when I took a year off at 18 years old, wanted to go pro eventually, health failed, now play 6 times a year but eat lunch at my club every few weeks. Now I enjoy watching and cheering on our modern day heros. My grandfather taught me many things, one was: Never trust a man who doesnt like sport or drinking. Been pretty true thus far PS: Ken, cricket is horrid these days.
Ken Gargett Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 [ PS: Ken, cricket is horrid these days. i'd argue not so the tests, the last two or three ashes series, in particular, have been riviting. doeesn't get better. the rest is crap.

Sure they were 'interesting' series' BUT I wouldn't say riveting, more a war of attrition... which to me these days cricket wise = changing the channel. No love for the 20/20 variant mate? I think its the future of the game unfortunately, with viewers and patrons attention spans decreasing at a rate of knots. I yearn for the days of Bevan hitting a four on the final ball at a packed SCG, the windies fast bowlers taking heads off and more than anything good contests. Thats when I loved watching a game of cricket. All the Aussie players these days are academy bred robots, no personality. Wheres the David Boon, the Craig McDermott, the Merv Hughes? Side note: Im with you, great test cricket is a real treat to view. But these days all the parts that made it such a treat have vanished and it seems even the players consider test cricket a trudge through dense vegetation.
Ken Gargett Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 [ Side note: Im with you, great test cricket is a real treat to view. But these days all the parts that made it such a treat have vanished and it seems even the players consider test cricket a trudge through dense vegetation. i think you speak to most players and they want to play tests first. characters have largely disappeared from most sports because of greatly increased press coverage, intense video saturation of the playing field, the removal of alcohol to an extent and the fact that most sports are now so professional, you can't be a 'character' to the same degree. think of doug walters - still my fave player. how would he have gone today? he had the talent (hughes reminds me of him a bit) but would the training and curfews and crap have stifled him? i'm no great fan of one day cricket though i have always enjoyed the world cup - the very first final in england in 75 and the latest in the west indies surely two of the greatest days of cricket of all time. i do not consider 20-20 to be in any way remotely related to cricket and i think it a travesty of time. it thoroughly annoys me that they actually call it cricket. it is to cricket as vinegar is to romanee conti.
mongboy Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Rugby: Blues, All Blacks NRL: Warriors (Yes, I am from New Zealand) EPL: Liverpool Another fan of Test Cricket. I find 20/20 utterly meaningless. Cricket for the Playstation generation.
smpf67 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Being a die-hard Chicagoan, my list is simple: MLB- Only the Cubbies (hate the White Sox, as all true Cub fans do!). NFL- The greastest franchise ever, and the one that created the NFL by Papa Bear George Halas...Da Bears! NBA- Bulls, but soooo boring since Jordan retired. NHL- GO GO Blackhawks!!! Need a big win tonight so we can hopefully shake those pesky Cannucks! Also, they have the greatest uniforms in all of professional sports, barr none! College Basketball- Just love watching March Madness, so whomever I have picked in my pools, that team is the flavor of the moment. College Football- Iowa Hawkeyes. GO BLACKHAWKS!!!!
