dcse Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 It has been interesting to read through this thread. Che the villain and Fidel the opportunist. I gather Cuba could be considered one of the last communist countries on this planet, with the cigar industry as an indispensable source of income to keep the boat floating. In itself a paradox. Although the picture on the left could mislead someone to consider me among the Che defenders, I am somehow struck by the strong condemnation of Che and and an almost apologetic approach to Fidel. Is it really so straightforward?

Is it really so straightforward? just in and will post again tomorrow but that is the key - it is absolutely not that straightforward and impossible to fully cover in a series of posts.
Colt45 Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 .....and an almost apologetic approach to Fidel. Speaking for myself, nothing could be farther from the truth - the original question was about guevara.
Morientes50 Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 One should always consider who's milkshake is being drunk. To all those that admire Che I pose a simple question: how would you feel if it was your family that was at the end of the barrel? I feel little antagonism towards che--I love the movie "motorcycle diaries" but mostly because I want to travel that continent by motorcycle one day. But I understand the "Miami Cubans" that have bitterness towards him. Not only did some of them suffer from this man, but they also suffer the double insult that he is considered a hero by many. If someone murdered your family, you probably wouldn't be too happy to find people glorifying the man on a teeshirt. It's not so cool when YOUR milkshake is being drunk.
stargazer14 Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 "I was always disapointed that you couldn't by a single piece of merchandise with Castro's picture on it. I so badly wanted a t-shirt with Fidel smoking a Cohiba, but no such thing existed. Perhaps upon his death will the Fidel t-shirts begin to crop up. " Just type in 'Fidel cuban cigar' on eBay - I'm sure plenty will show up.
