Ken Gargett Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Plea for busted banker in nude Miranda Kerr incident February 04, 2010 03:35pm A WEBSITE has set up a campaign to help save the job of the banker caught looking at near-nude photos of supermodel Miranda Kerr on live television. The financial website Here is the City has set up page "Help Save Macquarie Banker's Job - Join Our Campaign" that encourages readers to email to the public relations department of Macquarie Bank to save the job of David Kiely. Mr Kiely, who works in Macquarie Private Wealth, has become an internet sensation after he was caught on live television looking at photos of semi-naked supermodel Miranda Kerr. He was opening e-mailed pictures of Kerr while one of his colleagues, Martin Lakos, did a live television cross to Channel 7 news right behind him on Tuesday. Last night Channel 10 news aired allegations that he had been set up, with one of the emails containing at the end: "Turn around now", which he did, finding himself confronted by the camera. In their email petition, Here is the City writes: "Whether set up or not, Kiely was really only guilty of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. There but for the Grace of God." The site says Mr Kiely seems like a nice bloke, the pictures were not hardcore and that he had already suffered enough. It added: "There's just too much political correctness in this world anyway." The email and webpage has been reportedly making the rounds of investment banks around the country. New internet hero Despite red faces at the bank, Mr Kiely has become an accidental hero to internet users. The most popular posting of the clip on YouTube attracted more than 50,000 hits as of late yesterday and ranked as the most popular clip in news and politics. The saucy photos of Kerr were believed to be from a recent GQ Magazine shoot and were sent to Mr Kiely via email. While Macquarie Bank said it was investigating the actions of the client investment manager, public opinion was vastly sympathetic. Some 250 YouTube users had commented on the video, with many arguing Mr Kiely was unlucky to be caught on TV. "To be fair, he was simply browsing through his emails, and perhaps he simply opened it not realising what it was?" one YouTube viewer wrote. "Can't blame him . . . probably the dullest job ever, plus I mean, come on, it's Miranda Kerr, he's only human," another YouTube viewer wrote. The only person who wasn't talking about him yesterday was the object of his email, Kerr, who flew into Sydney yesterday from New York, oblivious to the mess her recent photo shoot had caused. "I don't know anything about it, I've been on a plane all night," Kerr said. Back on home turf for the David Jones winter fashion launch next week, Kerr smiled as Mr Kiely's gaffe was explained to her before changing the subject to how pleased she was to be back home. "I'm really happy to be home . . . to spend time with my family and friends," Kerr said. Colleagues at Macquarie's King St wharf office block were yesterday tight-lipped about Mr Kiely's misdemeanour. "I don't want to say anything -- the photos aren't bad, he was just unlucky with his timing," one colleague said smiling as he left the building for lunch. Another colleague said Mr Kiely was a "decent guy" who would be embarrassed by the stir he has caused.
bunburyist Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 oh man that's funny. Can imagine the guy mailing him was absolutely wetting himself...
dicko Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 its definitely funny. but whats NOT funny is this bloke actually might lose his job. email sent to Macquarie HR in support. please do the same!! [email protected]
thechenman Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 While funny it is tragic. Having worked on a trading desk my entire working career, I can certainly sympathize with him. At the same time he should have been more wary as there is no privacy in this type of environment. Usually, there is a heads up given before the trading floor camera is turned on as well. Companies like having their employees look busy in the background.
Habanos2000 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Companies like having their employees look busy in the background. Seems like he was busy all right!
matthew261 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Let's see...beautiful women with perfect bodies are (willingly) photographed wearing almost something in seductive poses so that men will purchase the magazines that advertise the products and services whose parent companies help drive the market economies from which investment banks generate wealth and income. Now one of those investment banks is contemplating the termination of a male employee for viewing such photographs. Perhaps if every male investor with that bank threatened to relocate their investments with other less anally retentive firms should they fire this poor guy...political correctness would receive a much needed and long deserved black eye. Hit'em where it hurts!
samb Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Lol, maybe he just shouldnt have been on his email at all. Dont think he should lose his job though.
Nedule Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Mcquarie should give this guy a promotion, the company is getting world wide advertising, for free.

Now one of those investment banks is contemplating the termination of a male employee for viewing such photographs. the whole thing is silly and the bank should just give him a quick wrap over the knuckles and move on but i suspect that what you describe would not be the reason for termination, rather that what he was doing was hardly what they were paying him for. and if you start getting blokes together, you might find some feminists feel more strongly about it and create even more trouble if they don't sack him. i suspect that if he is an employee who was making them profits, he'll stay. if not, might get the flick.
matthew261 Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 what you describe would not be the reason for termination, rather that what he was doing was hardly what they were paying him for. I get paid to read MY email. In fact they expect me to do so. I suspect this fellow was set up. As for the feminists, I'm all for equal rights, but some of the garbage they've been behind is nothing but male bashing. I realize Ken you are of a much older generation but men of my generation are fairly tired of seeing men emasculated by the PC police. I predict a backlash.
