ericC Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Hey all Need some help. I have 2 boxes of cohiba gran reserva's and im planning on smoking one then aging the other. Do you think its a good idea to age a cigar thats already 5 years old? Do you think its already at its peak or should be aged longer....
audio1der Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 You're fortunate to be able to carry out the perfect plan (short of having 3+ boxes, that is ). With tobacco as high quality as the GR in such a large presentation (Cananozo) I should think they will continue to age and marry flavors gracefully for years and years to come. My $.02
cgarner Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I would love to age one and see how the flavors development, but yet I'm just a poor cigar smoker.
thechenman Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I would definitely age them. No doubt about it. While the Cohiba GR tobacco is aged five years, standard production Habanos have aged much longer with good results. I would say that aging a cigar of this quality and in this size/vitola, could lead to an extremely complex and subtle smoke down the road. If you can afford the luxury and can withstand the time...do it.
Van55 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 As thechenman says, there's a difference between a 5 year old cigar and a cigar that has been rolled from 5 year old tobacco. In my humble opinion, the Grand Reserva will age extremely well and will improve in the process. That said, they're already exceptional cigars.
PigFish Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Aging cigars is coincidental to owning more cigars than you can smoke in one day! (A Piggy Postulate) Smoke them when you want to smoke them; today, tomorrow... or never! -
Guest rob Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Blatant brag post by the OP. experiment with the cigars. try one every year. for the next 30 years.
smokem Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Two boxes!!! I can't even consider buying an empty box as another site offers.
Jimmy2 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Smoke one now if you love them smoke away thats what their ment for to smoke...
Buch0 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 experiment with the cigars. try one every year. for the next 30 years. Haha I would be inclined to follow that if I had two boxes.. Great idea to be honest.
El Presidente Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Try a couple year to understand where they are at. You know what in your mind a benchmark cigar is. When it approaches you know you are close. When it starts dipping away you increase the pace but retain a dozen to try 2 every year for the next 6 years.
DrunkenMonkey Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Two boxes!!! I can't even consider buying an empty box as another site offers. Selling the empty box?? Is the box a humidor or something? Can someone post a picture of the box?
LiLo Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 These cigars are amazing right now but in 5 more years they are going to blow minds. I would definitely age these if you can. If i would guess these cigars will continue to improve for at least 10-15 years.
ericC Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 not really a humidor but its pretty Selling the empty box?? Is the box a humidor or something? Can someone post a picture of the box?
DrunkenMonkey Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 not really a humidor but its pretty OK, not such a silly thing to sell that box by itself. Thanks for the picture, and enjoy the smokes.
craigos Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 not really a humidor but its pretty Remove that plastic - it stinks!!!

brian1 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Prez, How about a follow up Gran Reserva video review? There are decidely mixed opinions on these and contrary to what many thought they are still widely available on the net. There is some conjecture that the release cigars do not live up to the hype. How about a Group Review. 12 reviewers. $135 a throw including shipping? Shipped out next week. Reviews in on the first week of May and we will dovetail it in with a video review posted same time? First 12 to post in the affirmative and contact Lise are in. The GR we reviewed in our last video review had 5 - 6 months rest. The GR we have here have only now had the time for an apples and apples comparison. I have read glowing and damning reviews everywhere and have discounted the majority. Most have smoked the cigars within 30 days -60 days of receipt which is a joke. This is the final box as I am sold out. I am happy to do a group review.
