Bartolomeo Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 -Very intimidating cigar that requires your attention as you know its going to be quite a journey, a journey you want to remember -Gifted from Piggy, my brother from another mother on the West Coast, in a trade we do on occasion -Wrapper is Chocolate in color with lots of wrinkles and veins, sign of a cigar that is 9 years old, feels like a Matte oily finish -Initial puffs are cocoa and tea, nice combo with some aged leather worked in -Swirls of Blue smoke dance off the end -Notice the EL band doesn’t have the year on it… -Light-Medium opening, very surprised about that -1/3 continues to bring that light cocoa to the surface -Transition from 1/3 to 2/3 brings some more leather and crème -Ash is dark Grey, layered and tight, lasted about 1.5” before dropping off initially -Light in profile, Light in flavor……this is my first one so I don’t know if they were stronger when young? -Draw was initially a tad tight but cigar has opened up perfectly, no issues at all now, burn rate is moderately slow -This reminds me of a Monte D EL but probably not as strong in flavor I would say -Cigar so far reminds me of your favorite shirt that your mother has washed and washed over the years and is now completely faded, no more bright colors left, this cigar shows signs of either the flavor was there younger or it never had any from the start -Dry boxed for 2 days -Smoke time was 138 mins -Last 1/3 is more pepper, leather and picked up in strength and flavor but not too much -Aftertaste on the cigar is long but very light, pleasant -If the Monte D EL is Coke, then this cigar is Diet Coke overall -Overall I was glad I had the experience of trying this cigar but I was disappointed in how weak of flavor it produced for an aged cigar -8/10 Bart
finecigar Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Yes! Thank you so much for an in-depth review of this certain cigar. I have only had a few of these, and I have to agree on the overall experience. Quite an enigma that doesn't necessarily live up to it's expectations I had. What a long smoke it is though! Thanks again Bartolomeo-
Ken Gargett Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 long time since i have seen these but i remember them as something very fine. the old washed shirt sounds good - makes sense. it should have settled down now.
thechenman Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Nice review Bart. I've never had the opportunity to get my hands on one of these to smoke, so I was always intrigued by it. Appreciate you sharing the experience.
Chaki Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I had one two days ago. A very satisfying smoke for me.
android Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Thanks Bart...nice review. Good observation about the band.
