What to Expect from Cuban Cigars
perkinke replied to El Presidente's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Not terrible, but as others have noted the biggest error is in the strength. If a Lusi makes him dizzy then an Opus (or several of the old blend Camachos) would give him a stroke! -
Stopwatch: Corona Gorda
perkinke replied to El Presidente's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
JL No. 1 Smoke time: 1 hour, 17 min. Sad to say I'm nearly through this 2014 box, it has been excellent. I love the strong profile of the No. 2, but I think the 1 has taken its place as my favorite JL. I am not good at discerning or describing the flavors but it is more subtle and smoother than the JL 2 but has the same solid core flavor like the 2. However, where the 2 is a puncher, the 1 is a boxer. Thoroughly enjoyable smoke that I have savored each and every one. Paired very well with the Slaine triple casket Irish in the picture, though I think my favorite pairing would be with the Balvenie Carib. Cask. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Should he stay or should he go?
perkinke replied to dowjr1's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
My first impulse was "this is theft," but had a couple of questions that I may have missed or need clarifying. 1) was the dog boarded at your facility or at the head trainers home/facility? 2) was the training carried out under the color of your business or as a private transaction? (did the client believe she was paying your business or knowingly paying him personally? the fact that no paperwork was signed to me strongly implies that she knew, or should have known, that it was not a transaction with your business) 3) do you have a policy prohibiting side-work by your employees? The best advice has already been given, find a good lawyer. The other thing you might think about for the future is contracting with a firm to handle your HR, there are some good ones and some bad ones but the good ones can save you a ton of headaches and money over the long-run. Think of them like you would an accountant: sure you could do your taxes/books yourself but isn't getting it right worth the investment? -
1. Tell my girlfriend. 2. Tell ex I'd love to BUT between the family and work I'm just crazy busy. Ask how's she's been 3. Ask her to scan and send the pics via email. 4. Let my girlfriend read it and leave it all where it is. Considering I used to apparently have a thing for high maintenance/crazy women there are few of my exes I want to see again. Exes are exes for a reason. And if it was high school I have even less interest in reliving any part of those years. Not bad years, but they were over 20 years ago, who cares any about it any more? his idea not MINE

I read this the other day, showed it to my boy to illustrate why I stress safety even with his nerf guns. Realistically she probably won't do any jail time, probably their state's version of criminally negligent homicide largely because the victim was a willing participant. Never understood the drive to be famous. Like others, I feel sorry for the children, they are going to have a weird life and you know some a-hole is going to find and show them the video at some point. -
I listen to the "Men in Blazers" podcast and Rog made an interesting point about the top four finishing. Paraphrased, professional sport is only about winning. Finishing in the top four, absent any other trophy in the season (congrats to Arsenal on the FA cup), while it is a good BUSINESS result it is a poor sporting result. Qualifying for the Champions League and then getting knocked out every year is little different than not qualifying for it, in sporting terms. It's also one of those things that is hard for a lot of Americans to get their head around in football. The "There's no points for second place" mentality is pretty deeply ingrained in many of us. The second point about the champions league is debatable. Being a United supporter the lack of Champions League, not to mention not even putting up a decent fight for the league, has been rather painful. But in the modern game, particularly the EPL, branding and ROI seems at times to have taken precedence over a team's competitiveness.

Rye paired with cigars
perkinke replied to nsills's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Really? It's always on the shelves here for 26 or 27 bucks. Back to the topic, Woodford does a rye I like and then a local distillery does another good one, have to check which it is after I'm home. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
can someone please explain...

I worked as a court clerk for quite a few years and this one tracks perfectly on the is list of stupid answers to the question "are these your drugs?" The most common being "those aren't my pants, I just found them." Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
That was my understanding as well, but the agents disagreed, and well, they got to decide if I went home or not so I didn't argue. [emoji4] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And technically, you still can't bring them in UNLESS you are transiting through Canada on your way home from Cuba. According to a border patrol agent last October. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The prices are kinda crazy, comparatively speaking, but gene i was in Calgary I was able to find some nice discontinued stock that was worth the cost for the novelty to buy (punch ss 2, LCG MDO 1, and partagas SDC no2) and try in singles. If your wife can find those kinds of boxes then I'd say buy them, but otherwise I don't know that the novelty would be worth the cost. Just my feeling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Physically? 28 or so but otherwise life is too good right now to want to go backwards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Box you just can't crack
perkinke replied to rhcolbert's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Quite the contrary, one of my big joys is that first stick from a new box. Have had too many friends see too few sunrises to put much off for "someday." Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
There's a couple brands I love that haven't been mentioned yet: Curivari-el gran Rey is my favorite but haven't had one of their lines yet I disliked; Regius- the core black line is the best, but their USA exclusivos aren't bad; Caldwell-love the Eastern Standard, (but hate the names of their vitolas) the king is dead was good too. Paul garmian makes some good stuff and I do like quite a few of AJ Fernandez' work. Fuentes anejo and Hemmingways are always good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Looks like I'm in the minority here. I have tried a number of different vitolas and all different ages, and while they were generally good (2010 behike very good) but to me the consistency and quality isn't that much better than other marcas and I simply prefer H. Upmann, Hoyo, and Partagas. And in almost all vitolas there are other marcas that I like better. Not saying they're not good, just saying not enough better to seek out. NFL Hall of Shame
perkinke replied to Ken Gargett's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
This kind of thing happens in almost all sports, the guys who really drive a team's success are often overlooked in favor of "skill" positions. Linemen in American football, defenders in football, defensively-focused players in basketball, etc. the problem is that you have to really know the game you're working with to see and understand their contributions. Older generations of writers got it, the last and current generations don't seem to take the time to really understand the games they cover. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Weekend Comp...Glad rags for blokes

We have a local distillery that I have been gravitating to: Burnside bourbon out of Portland, Oregon; but on the national side, like everyone else it seems, Blantons is great. I also like the WL Weller (original, not antique or reserve) for a more inexpensive (here anyway) bottle. Woodford double owned is pretty good too. Lately though I e been reaching for either scotch or rye.

My Hot Date with Di - What to Wear?

Or since you said "no" to the mankini, what about one of these snappy little numbers? Might get a bit breezy in the evening though... -

How Many Boxes of RE/LE Do You Buy?
perkinke replied to Hurltim's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Have to agree whole heartedly with pig on this one. The one EL I bought and loved I have gone through several boxes, but it is one of the less popular releases so I can still get it at about the same price point I would pay for similar regular production lines. I have had one RE I really thought worth purchasing again but the market for it exploded and it's just not worth the extra mark-up to me. I feel the same way about the Pappy craze. It's good, but not as big a difference from more regular production as the marketing/hype makes it out to be. I don't blame either Habanos or the distillers for cashing in on fads, it's smart business. -
US political threads
perkinke replied to Ken Gargett's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
I would like to add my thanks to the mods and rob for the no US politics rule. I wish more of my countrymen could disagree with respect and class; but sadly, as a nation, we have lost that ability. I for one have always been grateful that I could get a break from all the nonsense here on FOH. As someone stated earlier, there are PLENTY of forums for people to scream at each other, even plenty of cigar boards for that. Don't try and change FOH into what you want in violation of the rules, simply join one of the other boards and vent your spleen to your heart's content.
