This week's Marca, Ramón Allones, has been chosen by John Stivaktas, known to regular FOHers as JohnS, who recently gave us a fab series of interviews about the history of the Cuban Cigar Website.

Great choice, John! A favourite of many FOHers, judging by how frequently the Marca crops up on the forum. RASS is one of the most favoured recommendations on the site, and consequently seems to disappear very rapidly whenever they crop up on 24:24s.

As usual, I encourage any of you who are regularly smoking Ramón Allones (and those who might not be) to dig a couple out of the humidor over the next week or so, and to cast your eye over the poll and let us know what you're tasting. Multiple choices are available, but you can also choose "None of the above" or "Other" if you're tasting nothing, or something not available as an option.

Please take part, whatever level you judge your tasting ability to be. This is a completely subjective poll, and first-timer input is as valuable as the most experienced, hard-won wisdom. The idea is to try build a picture of the "average" palate of FOH users, and the more voters we have, the clearer that picture will be.

Happy Smoking!

Iain

Thank you Iain for the opportunity to choose this week's marca, I am truly honoured mate! wink.png

My excitement in regards to choosing Ramon Allones comes from my recent viewing of Nic Wing's excellent video for UK Cigar Magazine with Jemma Freeman, the Managing Director of UK Habanos importer Hunters & Frankau.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezeSEp_nEjA

In the video she mentions her family's close historical connection with H.Upmann and Ramon Allones. As H&F had a special release with H.Upmann for their 200th Anniversary, they selected Ramon Allones for their 225th Aniversario release, which some of our members have been fortunate to sample!

In the video, Jemma mentions that the Ramon Allones Specially Selected cigar is very popular amongst staff at H & F...

Ramon Allones is noted for it's leather, tobacco and stewed fruit flavours, and more so after aging. I'm looking forward to sampling some Ramon Allones cigars this week and contributing to this poll thereafter.

P.S. How timely was Rob and Ken's review of the Ramon Allones Gigantes this week?

This'll be a fun choice because so much of RA's popularity may very well come from its excellent Regional Editions. I'm particularly fond of the Grande España.

Destino30, those are beautiful Varnished 8-9-8's from 2008!

I know the 2015 Ramon Allones EL Club Allones is eagerly anticipated...

Similarly, the German regional release announced in 2014 of 8-9-8's is also eagerly awaited for by some of our members!

Very much so by me - I've got two kids and the boy was born in 2011. I've got a box of the 2011 Short Hoyos on long term storage for him. =) My daughter was born this year, and I'm getting her a box of Club Allones... and one for her old man, ofcourse. ;)

Speaking about special releases, I sampled the 2010 LCDH Exclusivo Allones Superiores this week (thanks JC67!)...a fantastic cigar that is quite popular on our forum!

That looks cracking. RA is not a Marca I've smoked a lot. Just a few RASS, really.

Would love to try the 2014 8-9-8 Lonsdales, but according to Cuban Cigar Website, they're still in the unicorn phase.

That's a web site I didn't know about really informative, thanks! And I didn't know about those new regional edition 8-9-8's. I hope they are hald as good as the standard production ones from 15 years ago!! I yearn for those...

Yes, Cuban Cigar Website is a fantastic source of information on cuban cigars. It's especially handy, I find, when researching whether a cigar has been discontinued or not, as Habanos SA is releasing and discontinuing cigars on a regular basis...and it's so hard to keep up with from memory!

By the way, I do wish the Ramon Allones Superiores were a regular production release...I really loved sampling this cigar last week, so much so, I picked up this marca in yesterday's 24:24!
