Now I'm not a Cohiba fan... but Rob has been touting these sticks persuasively, so I thought I'd give 'em a go.

I am familiar with the panatella format. The Partagas Series du Connaisseur are some of my favorite smokes. Like the Party, the Lancero is an elegant, well-made cigar. The wrapper was a caramel brown, smooth and lightly veined. Pre-light scents were mild, including aged tobacco, vanilla and other aromatics. It cut cleanly, and drew perfectly.

When fired up, I was greeted with a pleasant surpise. Unlike most other Cohibas I have smoked, the Lancero was strong and spicy. Not a peppery spice, but more like cinnamon, allspice and other cooking spices. It was definitely not "sweet", but it was so smooth and creamy that it had a dessert-like quality, reminiscent of the hard stick candies I enjoyed as a kid. It made me think of hot cinnamon stick, vanilla bean, and mild citrus fruit flavored candy.

Compared to the Party Connaisseur, it was not as peppery, and did not have the distinct citrusy "twang" I associate with that cigar. In my experience, the Partagas is also a more complex cigar. The Lanceros was perfectly "linear" from start to finish, but what it delivered, it did so in spades. It produced a decadently creamy smoke, rich with tantalizing, lip-smacking spices. I nursed it for an hour and a half.

This is a very intriguing, and satisfying smoke, with more "moxie" than other Cohibas I have tried. At least a 91.

Nice review Shrink. I have some CLE JUN01's that are similar in profile (minus the cinnamon), but have darker wrappers. I've had a couple of draw problems though.

The lancero is one cigar that I just don't get, I just assign the blame to my Billy Goat palate!

The Part Conn#1 is the real deal for me.

i do not generally care for lanceros of any marque. i have had way too many plugged smokes to ever really given them a huge chance, though. i have heard that the cohiba lanceros have a much better construction history though. anybody have any long term experience there?

Thanks for the review. I agree, these are some outstanding cigars.

Thanks for the push, you may have sent me over the edge. I recently sampled a lancero that had been sitting in the bottom of my humidor ( probably a 98 or 99 no box no code)and was dumbfounded. I sat there smoking, and between draws just thinking that if the draw wasn't so firm this would be a 10 , all I could do was stare.

Thanks,
