MontrealRon Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Heartfelt greetings to all the brothers and sisters - I've followed this forum for quite some time, and have been most impressed with the open attitudes and giving natures of the members here. This is a club that I would be really proud to be a part of. I found cigars after quitting cigarettes around twelve years ago, and have never looked back. My first hobby was wine, starting back in my early twenties, which still fascinates me today. Wine has introduced me to some of my best friends, and has been a part of many fond memories. Cigars seem to be taking me on a similar, parallel track. Both are great as solitary pleasures, but so much better when shared. While it is much easier these days to share a bottle of wine with someone than to share cigars, a forum like this can give smokers a chance to do just that - at least virtually! Most of the cigars I smoked for the first couple of years were NC's, which could be bought at reasonable prices over the border. As my fellow Canadians know only too well, cigar taxes here make smoking a luxurious indulgeance for all but the wealthy. When my wife and I took our first trip to Cuba, everything changed. We've been back most every year. Now I've got a great ten year old plus collection of Puros Indios, 5 Vegas, Perdomos, Padrons, etc.! In 2004 I discovered the Swiss internet merchants. For about a year and a half, I went totally beserk! This was a golden age for buying, as three out of four packages sailed right through customs, while half the rest were reasonably taxed. Nowadays, most everything gets dinged, and often at outrageous rates. It is rather ironic that our US brothers, with the embargo and all, have a much easier time than we dumb Canucks! As to my taste in cigars, it is rather eclectic. According to my mood, I can choose a Bolivar Tubo #2, an LGC Md'O #3, or an old Flor de Cano Selectos. I do, however, almost invariably pick a narrow-medium gage. Of over 100 boxes, there is only one box of Robustos, a not-yet-sampled box of '02 D4's, my just finished box of '00's being rather poor. My all time favorites - Partagas SDC #1 and 2. (Got to try those #3's someday!) Enough about myself, but I would like to thank all of you who have done so much to make FOH so welcoming. I'll smoke a great one in your honour tonight!
