EricM Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Start of the early season has not been easy, most birds in the area are only local birds but a strong north wind has kicked in the migration making this mornings hunt one to remember. The final tally was 31 birds and 1 banded bird. We could have made our limit but we all agreed 31 was plenty of birds too clean.. Regular season of ducks and geese starts next saturday. More reports too follow.. Here's my first band of the season, will be phoning it in on Monday.
craigos Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Always wanted to hunt geese. I am a displaced australian so never got to hunt much there. I shoot competitive sporting clays - won a few national, state and regional comps. Looks wonderful.
bunburyist Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 nice. Man it's been so long since I've been hunting, it's tragic. Beautiful dogs too
thechenman Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I've never been hunting before, but have always wanted to. I have done clay shooting from time to time though.
jquest63 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Nice Shooting! How will you be preparing them?
EricM Posted September 23, 2009 Author Posted September 23, 2009 We normally only breast them and have pepperettes made with them.. Other times I eat the breast like steaks, marinate them for 3 days and cook rare.. Just so amazing and tender!!..
FlyFishingDude Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Ah yes, honkers to the left, honkers to the right. I try to make it up to Saskatchewan every few years, gotta love it. Mike
brutusthebuckeye Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Nice!!!!! i have always heard there meat is like a rubber band......But your sayin not so?????
android Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Nothing like a great day in the field with friends and watching the dogs work.
thechenman Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Nice!!!!!i have always heard there meat is like a rubber band......But your sayin not so????? I think the meat is a bit gamier than duck, and definitely has more fat which can sometime lead to it being too oily for me.
EricM Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 Nice!!!!!i have always heard there meat is like a rubber band......But your sayin not so????? You really have to cook it like meat.. cook it rare and it'll be just amazing. over cook it and it's just nasty!!
cgarner Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 nice birds, I shot a few ducks the other day.
samb Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 My sheltered childhood gets the best of me and I've never been hunting. I like your dogs though. My dog loves to chase ducks, lol.
TonyK Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Nice jewelry! Have not been fortunate enough yet to hang any on my lanyard yet! Keep giving them hell! Weird year down here in Colorado it should start picking up again the next couple weeks
reg Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 whats the significance of the band? and what is this, shooting fish in a barrel?? you guys are sitting there with guns and 30 dead birds, and the rest of them are still just hanging around? lol
EricM Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 whats the significance of the band?and what is this, shooting fish in a barrel?? you guys are sitting there with guns and 30 dead birds, and the rest of them are still just hanging around? lol Those are decoys moron.
reg Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Those are decoys moron. ahh, I knew everyone at FOH couldn't all be friendly. thanks. excuse me for not knowing or ever hearing of humans needing decoys to hunt big dumb birds there are some geese in my yard, wanna come shoot em? I could probably just run up and grab one, that might be easier
Buch0 Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Decoys? He must be having us on I think... What's the difference between the "decoys" and the actual targets? I think the rest of those geese in the pictures would be dead as well if they hadn't run out of bullets..
craigos Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 I shoot competitive sporting clays in WA state and always wanted to goose hunt ... using decoys is to hunt birds (ducks, geese) is common place.

Your reply above says it all.
EricM Posted March 19, 2010 Author Posted March 19, 2010 Decoys? He must be having us on I think... What's the difference between the "decoys" and the actual targets? I think the rest of those geese in the pictures would be dead as well if they hadn't run out of bullets.. Decoys = Plastic.. Is that even a real question?? Yes that's what hunters do, go out with boxes of ammo and shoot everything in site..
BlackFriar Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 HAH!!!! That band is from Laurel, Maryland which is adjacent to my house. Here's hoping that particular goose is one of the many that ****'s all over my yard!
