Ken Gargett Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 a mate sent me this photo, this morning. monster GT on fly. i believe he caught it off exmouth in the west but i think it is a few years old. i got hit by a big GT (i assume as i couldn't see what it was) one arvo on christmas island. it dragged me about ten foot and i have never moved so fast. this must have been amazing to fight.
Ken Gargett Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 How much does it weigh?! it would have been released without being weighed but the estimate was around the 90lb mark.
CigarmanTim Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 If my kids saw this they would never swim in the ocean again
Ken Gargett Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 If my kids saw this they would never swim in the ocean again fishing on christmas last year, we had one about 40 to 50 lbs swimming around our legs but we could not get it to take a fly. it actually came up to the guide and was taking pillies from his hand. extraordinary sight. you could give it a pat or a scratch and it didn't mind yet the chances of it ever having seen a human before must have been amazingly remote.
kcmontie Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 on a flie set up thats amazing....great job.. He's a lucky man Cheers
Ellery Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Wow...looks like it dates to prehistoric times. Very nice!!!
craigos Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 i love flyfishing for GTs. Caught two in Christmas each about 75-80 lbs back in 2000. Dream is to fish for these in midway or seychelles.
