Anyone have construction issues with these cigars?? Wonderful tasting but the first 2 out of my box have been dissapointing when it comes to build quality. Wondering if anyone else has had the same problem?

What sort of issues are you referring to?

second the wrapper was practically coming unwrapped

just a little dissapointed so far

Eric, I don't mean to be rude... but I have found these issues are nearly always controllable by the end-user.

Excessive Relative Humidity in storage is pretty much the only reason I experience your first problem. Though sometimes I do notice that an overly tight cigar may have trouble staying lit - but I'm assuming the draw was ok on this one.

With your second example - I have only ever experienced this when I removed to much off the head - removing all of the 'cap' that holds the wrapper in place. I have never experienced it otherwise.

Maybe some others will chime in with their experiences.

Thanks for the feed back and I would agree on the first point but everything in my humidor is smoking wonderfully. I use the beeds and monitor my humidor religously.

As for cutting too much?? Maybe but I'm pretty consistent on my cutting..

I'm hoping the third is a charm with this box.

Are the that are smoking wonderfully Cuban?

Most Non-Cuban cigars will smoke just fine at above 65% RH.

Though you will find that many here will swear that 62% to 65% is what works best for draw, burn and consistency problems.

As a suggestion - I recommend you try 'dry-boxing' your third cigar. Just put it in an empty cigar box for a day or so (I'm assuming your RH is average in Ottawa) and then give it a go.

I'm starting my second box of PSD4 of 2008 and I never had any problem with the 30 out of 50 that I smoked.

Good luck for the rest of the box.

Have had some bad sticks (about 5 so far) out of a July '08 box. Hard as a tent peg and unsmokable. Please no suggestions about fixing my humidity as this is not the issue--construction is. The ones that draw DO have had a great flavor--even at their tender age of 1.

They have been underfilled from time to time in 08 boxes to much air to little flavor..

I find it unfortunate and a bit sad that we still have these concerns. I understand what's going on with layoffs and salaries, but that people still

have to cross their fingers when lighting up what I consider a Habanos staple.......

My box is dated June 2008.. so might explain some of my issues.. ??

I hope not, my first box was FEB08 (finished with no problem) and my second box is JUN08 (I smoke only 5 of it).

I'll update if I get any problem.

Good luck for the rest of the box.

I have had burn problems, not that they don't stay lit, but they burn unevenly. I am forever touching up with a torch. Not on every cigar, but about 1 in 4. This will not stop me from buying more as I am an unabashed Partagas ***** usually having 3 or 4 different cigars. This reminds me I need some Shorts.

There are periods in June, July, where the rain tumbles down in Havana for days at a time. The humidity is stifling and the windows to the factories are fully opened. The tobacco the rollers are using during these periods can be overly moist as they absorb the external moisture like a sponge. It also makes the cigars harder to roll with the end result being a higher % of quaity issues (on these hot, humid, wet days).

Time in your humidor at the propper humidity will cure the excess moisture but the construction frailities resulting from such days can linger.

WIth underfilled cigars I have begun throwing them in a humidor which uses a Puck 70 (70% humidity). It helps reduce the wind tunnel effect dramatically.

With tight cigars I dry box them (no huidifier) for an extended period of time. End result normally is a surprisingly smokeable and often good cigar.

Maybe my post will help you, I purchased a box from an 04 last year and tried to smoke some of htem in the first 2 months, they were all plunged and I blamed Partagas! I wish I didn't! because after reading around the forum I decided to put them in another humidor with 60% humidity and 4 weeks later problem solved! I never had to look back and my PSD4 were back and better then ever.

I agree with Rob on that one, I think you should dry box them and see how you go, good luck.

Cheers,

Elie.

colt it's 50/50 really lots if times it is usually the way they have been stored and not because they were tightly rolled.

I agree - it's the improperly constructed 50 that worries me.
