GarlicBreath Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Hi all! I'm very interested in learning about machine mades. The few that I had were actually very nice. I queued some up on my wish list but I have a feeling that I'm just scratching the surface. What's the current offering of machine mades? What machine made do you keep in your daily rotation? Thanks! Cheers!
FireDigger Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I went through a machine-made phase as well when I first started with CCs, but it was a short-lived period. I found the JLP line to be my favorite. I wanted to like the Partagas Mille Fleur, but it just did not happen with the 2 or 3 I've had. I've also read Por Larranaga makes some of the best machine-made cigars, but I didn't like them much either. Although I did not like them, you should still try them out as everyone's taste is different. The only one I would not suggest trying is Guantanameras. Haven't had one myself and intend to keep it that way.
Jimmy2 Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 There are no more MM cigars they are all hand made now I think it changed sometime in 2005.

Yes - here's a link to Trevor's fine site for a bit of info: Link Oddly enough, HSA's site still lists mecanizado as a production method, though they don't go into specifics. They do mention that all but a very few cigars are totally hand made. I think I recall Rob saying that cigarillos / mini cigars are still machine made, but don't quote me on it.
PigFish Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Partagas Chicos are about the only MM cigars that I smoke now and again. They are a hit and run cigar. I still have some La Corona MM for '90 and '91 which can still flatten you, but I am curious how they will taste when 25 years old so the just take up space now. Unless a vendor tosses in some samples I don't get MM cigars, they don't represent what interests me most about cigars. When I want smoke I want to enjoy a cigar. Now that does not mean that you can't enjoy a MM cigar, but typically I want to spend my smoking time as wisely as I can. That means that I typically pull a cigar out that is going to satisfy not only my desire to smoke, but my desire to smoke something of quality and taste. If I am going to drink an orange drink I will drink orange juice not Tang. If I am going to eat chocolate I will eat lesser of a good chocolate before I eat more of a lesser chocolate. I would rather smoke a good PC than a mediocre churchill. To keep the analogy going, I would prefer a du Depute to MM PC.
smk819 Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Quintero Panatellas used to be MM, they used to be my golf course cigar, but I have replaced them with Super Partagas which also used to be MM. I am not sure if they are machine bunched and hand finished or if they are entirely hand made now.
