Colt45 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 If interested, here's a little background: Link Another year in the humidor has shown quite a bit of evolution when compared to last year's, and prior samples. Cold aroma is a combination of sweet and musk, with a cold taste of light milk chocolate. Appearance and construction great as they all have been. Core flavor of slightly sweet tobacco and just enough white pepper to sense it's there. The texture on the palate of silky, liquid milk chocolate, which also showed itself as an overlay flavor component. The odd hint of unsweetened cherry and burnt sugar or caramel. Past midpoint, there's a bit more earth, but it never gets very dark. Medium plus in body, and fairly dense, but not heavy. Just a hint of wood, with an ever so slightly tannic finish. No flavors are overt, but everything is very well integrated and totally in balance. Very smooth and cool smoking. As solid a cigar as I've had recently, and to my palate, exceptional. Perhaps not one of those "WOW!" cigars, but a cigar, to use a human trait, which was extremely confident in what it was. My two laments are that it had to end, and that I've but one of these left. I do have a dress box in hiding, and hope they are near equals to this batch of A/Ts.
Habanos2000 Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Colt, are you keeping these in sealed tubes all the time, or open in the humi?
PigFish Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Good job Ross. How about a demo on your photo skills? -LOL I have not had an RyJ churchill for sometime now. When I think about it I don't think I have more than a couple of boxes of RyJ cigars... I just never hit it off with them. The churchill however has always been a stalwart of the line and to churchills in general. Sounds like a great cigar! Cheers, -Piggy
Colt45 Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 Colt, are you keeping these in sealed tubes all the time, or open in the humi? H2K, I've always kept them in the humidor with the caps on. I will say that when first received, they were on the moist side, and it did take somewhat longer for them to acclimatize when compared to non-tubed cigars. Piggy, here we are mid 2009, and I don't have a digital camera I can call my own If you're looking for an autographed photo, I'll be happy to send one out As for the cigar, it really was very good. I think what I've really enjoyed most is tasting the transformation of these over the past few years. They've slowly shed any harsh edges while retaining, or even gaining depth and flavor. I'm looking forward to and have hopes for the dress box.
laficion Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Ross, Thanks for the interesting review, I'll have to look into this again since I haven't had a RyJ A/T in such a long time. I was truly upset the last time I had one , but I guess there must have been many other reasons at the time
Colt45 Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 Ross,Thanks for the interesting review, I'll have to look into this again Guy, beside the fact it had been nearly a year since my last, I think one of the reasons I decided on this cigar was that more often than not when members discuss this cigar, it seems to end in disappointment or apathy. These have all been very well made, and as stated, I feel are really coming into their own. I hope you find your next to be enjoyable
PigFish Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 ...Piggy, here we are mid 2009, and I don't have a digital camera I can call my own If you're looking for an autographed photo,I'll be happy to send one out ...yeah, that'll do. Just scan it and post it!!! -Piggy
