Shelby07 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Ever wonder what went on in the cockpit of the Concorde? These are pretty interesting videos of 3 stages of a flight from Heathrow to JFK. Compared to today's glass cockpits, these seem to be from the dark ages, but instrumentation aside, the Concorde was (and still is) a technological marvel. It's too bad the plane was retired. The videos are about 10 minutes each. I think the most interesting one is the descent and landing. Anyone who flies fast slippery airplanes here knows the challenges of slowing them down. http://www.patricksaviation.com/videos/hokeyPokey/3814/ <- Takeoff http://www.patricksaviation.com/videos/hokeyPokey/3813/ <- Accelerate to mach 1.7 http://www.patricksaviation.com/videos/hokeyPokey/3812/ <- Descent and landing
sandholm Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Very very cool, i once had the opportunity to fly just Herhrow to NY with concord, when i was working in IT. Unforutnally the company didnt pay me to fly back, regalary 747, but going there was fun. really cool video, i have always admired these guys, well, to be honest I admire people flying a cessna, i can climb steep walls, and cope with high alltitude, but fly, no way, cracy people you fly? cheers
Shelby07 Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 ...you fly?cheers Well, I'm still a licensed pilot. I used to run a flight school after I retired from IT - Nowadays I just fly commercial.
OZCUBAN Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Thanks Shelby07 Cool Videos the Concorde was really years ahead of its time I doubt we will see any thing like that again Cheers Oz
sounddust Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Growing up, Concordes have always wowed me more than space shuttles. I was distraught when the plug was pulled on these beauties just when I was able to afford flying on one.
Trevor2118 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 If you have even been in one............Concorde equates to Claustrophobia. From a passengers point of view, the only technology apparent was speed.

jeromeroselli Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Thanks for posting I'm a student pilot Shelby. By "you only fly commercial" do you mean that you fly commercial jets?
Shelby07 Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 Thanks for postingI'm a student pilot Shelby. By "you only fly commercial" do you mean that you fly commercial jets? Yeah - first or business class with a drink in hand every chance I get. Actually I gave up flying a couple of years ago. My final flight was from Red Oak, Iowa back to Denver in a Bellanca Turbo-Viking. Got hit with cold sweats, blurred vision and total disorientation for about 20-30 minutes in clouds during the flight. One of the scariest times of my life. I'm convinced a very competent Century III autopilot saved my ass. After that it was a no-brainer. I still fly occasionally with friends, but never as PIC. Haven't had a problem in a while, but it still comes and goes. According to the doctors I'm as healthy as a horse. Go figure.
jeromeroselli Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 You know I'm sure it has nothing to do with health.. Instrument flying is terrifying.
