Anybody know the types of tobacco used in cuba, for filler and wrapper? I've read an interview with A Robaina where he said he was planting Criollo 98 and Corojo 99 seeds, this was a few years back. It seemed in the interview that Robaina grew wrapper leaf only, do you think other farmers growing wrapper leaf used the same seed, or do they even have the option of using different seeds? What about filler? Just curious.

As I know cubans used Criollo 98 & Habano 2000 (06) for filler and Corojo for wrappers. May be another news from Cuba's agroinstitute researching? +1)

I have wondered how long between planting and harvesting. Is it only one growing season, or a multi year process?

The online Cuban newspaper - guerrillero - used to have a section devoted to cigars that provided a great deal of this type of info.

Unfortunately, this section seems to be no longer available. I did find another site that has all the guerrillero info, but I'm not sure

if it would be appropriate to provide a link.

Punch Joe will chime in when he has time to confirm.

Average lifecycle of a tobacco strain is 7 years.

4 strains in production at any one time (each at a different stage of their lifecycle).

Seed type distributed by central body.

One Cigar leaf crop per year.

Seconday cash crop can be grown (for cigarettes) subject to adequate water.
