Colt45 Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Singles, no codes, assume recent production. Construction: good overall construction, no problem spots Wrapper: Nice deep tan. Smooth, with a slight sheen. One fairly large zipper vein. Draw: Good draw, with good smoke volume. Taste: This one was cedar all the way through, with some hint of nuts. There was the slightest bit of honey sweetness about mid point, which came and went the rest of the way. Overall, it was a nice cigar, though fairly one dimensional. It definately seems to have the backbone to improve with time, but for now I give it an 85.
Phailure Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Thanks for the review. I've heard a lot of great things about these. It's too bad that the Famosos didn't do it for you this time around. Hopefully time should change that.
waldo Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 One of my favorites. The very best box I've smoked had a very toothy wrapper on them. So far, I have never found another box quite like that.
Ginseng Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Can anyone comment on who the Famosos compares to the Familiars? I love the Familiars but have not tried a Famosos.

SoCalSmoker Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 I actuall prefer '00-'02's over the '97's. Seem to have more punch and boldness.
Shiba Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 I was gited one of these from '98 and was VERY happy with it. I need to try some more though to make a more educated descision on them. Thanks for the review.
The Privateer Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Thanks for the review! I've tried these both matured and fresh, and they seem to have quite a bit of variation.
pittesq Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 Great review! I have one in the humi from a recent order. Looking forward to trying it.
gabebdog1 Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 cool review I got some from the original release frickin awsome smoke a nuber
piranha Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Finished smoking one today. Don't know the box code, since I bought a few singles two years ago. Very tasty.
Elric Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I'm not a big VR fan but if you can find '97 famosos buy them in quantity...just fantastic!
Fatshotbud Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 » I'm not a big VR fan but if you can find '97 famosos buy them in » quantity...just fantastic! Have not had a bad one - do not believe any of my samplings were earlier than 2001.

dmoby73 Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 » I like the entire VR line. Good stuff. I agree
pittesq Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 I've got one in the humi, might have spark it this weekend. :-D
MrQ Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 I like to enjoy the Famosos with a glass of Dewers.:-)
pittesq Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Had my first last night and couldn't agree more. I didn't love it enough to want to order a box, but I never just a smoke on the first stick so I'll revisit it and see if my mind changes on them.

How can the same cigar tast so differently to many different people? I love the Vegas Robainas, but I get a touch of sweet vanilla cream, maybe some caramel... but smooth all the way down, one of my personal favorites. Can anyone tell me which smoke would compare to this one, but with an extremely spicy wrapper? (Maduro LOVER)

argon345 Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Very nice...Sounds just like one i smoked this past weekend from '03. I had two boxes of these but decided to let a few rest and have been trying them from time to time....too bad I only have one left :crying:
strayvector Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Lately, I've been on a Famosos bender. In the past 2 weeks, I've smoked 6 of them and they have been fantastic. Each one a finger burner.
1f1fan Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Smoked a VR Famoso from Aug 03 last night and my experience was exactly like yours Colt. Cedar with some slight nutty (peanuts?) taste and a very short finish. Overall burn and draw were good, but very one dimensional in terms of flavor. I have smoked 5-6 of these over the past 2 years and none of them have done much for me. Maybe I have a dud box or these need more age to smooth out and develop.....not touching them again until they hit the 5 year mark.
