jeromeroselli Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Where are the Jose Piedra and Foseca KDT smokers? I feel that for the price, these cigars deserve a thread. My experience: Jose Piedra- Nothing of note, but you know what? Not half bad if you've got some people over who aren't regular smokers. Fonseca KDT- The same, except.. When I know I've only got time for 5-10 minutes of a cigar, I'll grab one out of my tupperdor and won't feel bad when I half to chuck it. Sometimes it's just about chasing the taste..... Anyone else?
Colt45 Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 My experience:Jose Piedra- Nothing of note, Fonseca KDT- The same If you truly want honest, your own words say it all . My thought to offering irregular smokers something sub-par (for lack of a better term), is that I'm going to help keep them irregular smokers. I look at it this way - if you were to come to my house for dinner / wine, and I knew you weren't overly choosy about wine in general, I would not offer you something other than what I was drinking. As for small cigars, there are many choices that are extremely enjoyable. But the old cliché holds true - smoke what you like, like what you smoke.
gwags Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I've attempted to smoke a few JP's and have yet to finish one - the aftertaste kills me.
Padrino Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Honestly, having gone through the entire Fonseca line i still fail to see the point in that marca being made. How it survives while other far superior and similar RG cigars disappear still baffles me. They're not bad, but they're definitely not good. So they're wrapped in kleenex to look pretty, that's about it.

I thought they were an excellent morning early afternoon type cigar. They are definitely MILD cigars but that does not mean they lack flavor. They had some very nice cedar and light coffee flavors. The other, and by far the best Fonseca I ever smoked, was aged #1. I had received two in a trade and I cant recall the exact year (97-98?......maybe mid 90's?) and then left them in my humi for several years after that. I was honestly surprised as heck when I finally smoked one. It was still mild, but it was really well balanced and full of flavor. The second was just as good. Maybe this line just needs that kind of time to come around. Plus you have take them for what they are, a mild light cigar.
Ginseng Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Every single JLP has had the dense, dirty mud taste that I've found characteristic of the marca. Every one that is, except for the Petit Cazadores. This little bugger is raw methamphetamine on crack with a double espresso chaser. Killer tripa corta snack at a price that can't be beat. Prior to that, the Cremas were my favorite and now and then, I still light one up when I'm working on the brakes and don't care if I mangle a working cigar. Wilkey
PigFish Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I think every dog has its day. While not a staple in the PigFish home I have smoked a few. It used to be that some vendors would toss them in as gifts so I would smoke them. When I can sniff out a bargain on Le Hoyos or RG's or SLR's for less than some of these products there is no need for me to buy them. I don't want to rain on any parade (maybe a little on the 50 plus RG crowd) but I don't buy them. The last machine mades that I bought in any quantity other than the Party Chico is the La Corona coronas. Some stockpiles were found from '91 and there about and I recall buying up a bunch of those for around $50 a box. They are working up to the 2 decade mark and I may have to find where I put them.

Some of those early 90's MM's were really nice cigars and like you said were available a few years back. Much tougher to find these days. I also really miss the Bolivar Chico's. I liked them better than the Partagas (which arent bad them selves) and the price was killer. I wish they would bring that one back.
