How good can this be? I know, I thought that too but it is true, a fair dinkum single malt made right here in Melbourne. Some of the older FoH members may recall that Australian made whisky generally has a less than glorious history but like anything else if the maker is determined and passionate about their craft a good product will appear. Equally so in the world of cigars of course.

There are a few variants in the Bakery Hill range, this one is the peated cask strength. The distiller has hand marked the alcohol content at 59.9%. Quite a kick in it.

Well who wouldn't be tempted to take just a small sip of the full strength as it comes from the bottle? It's actually not bad. Intense as you would expect but not the searing paint stripper effect I have experienced with other (which shall remain nameless) spirits.

With a couple of ice cubes added the flavours were more easily sorted. I was fascinated with the slight smoky flavour that would appear and disappear from the palate. Taking a slow sip the mouth feel is very even right over the palate through to swallowing. It's delicate, there are no rough points or spikes of flavour that appear, just a fine mellow flavour. Flavours are subtle to me, it's certainly not featuring big on sweetness but if you can handle that then this is a very 'moreish' drop.

I'd recommend this as it is a fine spirit, not cheap, but google them and there is a website that goes through the production and history and so on.

Thanks for reading, this is my first review. Has anyone else tried this single malt?

Thanks Ken, I will give the Lark a shot too. According to their website they have retailers in all Aus states. I am heading down to Tassie in the next few months anyway and so I will grab some then I reckon.

anacostiakat: it may be best to try these guys direct through their websites. I should think they would want to help you.
