I had a chance while in Havana to see the prototype of the new warranty seals.

Very similar to the current ones.....with one important difference. Bar code which tells to which distributor it was sent by Habanos s.a.

This should set the cat amongst the pidgeons :D

Rob,

Will this new label be on the boxes for the Cuba market?

Or just export market?

I'm guessing that they'll just use the bar coded seal for everything and encode boxes sold on Cuban soil as something designating "native" or some such. Of course, we'll need to see the form of this seal before we can really dig into what is there.

You know... it just struck me - but these new bar codes wont supply any more information than the current serial number already does.

Think about it. They make the serial numbers (which are all unique) and can therefore track all details about the box it has been applied to - Factory boxed at, date affixed, location and date sent to, etc...

If they cared enough, and got their **** in order, then any information they seek could surely be available on a global database using those serial numbers.

A barcode will only serve to make the process of retrieving that information 'slightly' easier. Also help with stocktakes at the distributor and retailer end.

Barcodes are not going to do a damn thing that serial numbers already couldn't do.
