I thought there would be a thread on this for sure, but I guess not much of a tennis crowd here?

Me neither, but I like watching sports in general. I really like the Nadal/Federer rivalry now that Nadal has topped Federer in overall ranking and his dominance in grand slams outside of the French. I am also interested to see young starts like Tsonga, Murray, and Monfils.

I've been watching as well, tennis is probably the most interesting sport on tv imo.

Each to their own. I can watch a final or a great Semi. Most games bore me to tears.

There appears to be something inherently flawed about a game where there is no risk of one combatant physically injuring the other :looking:

suffers from being on in cricket season, undoubtedly the greatest sport ecer conceived, but i have been trying to watch what i can. enjoy wayching nadal. federer obviously a top player but something so cold and lifeless about him, i just can't get enthused.

going to the 1/4s in melb next wed (projected temp 39 degrees and usually about 15 degrees hotter on the actual court. a five setter will take it out of them.

i really enoyed watching tomic. a mate has assisted with his coaching and says he is the best young player he has ever seen (this bloke was on the circuit for quite a while so some idea). for a kid who has just gone 16, amazing stuff. he has a backhand that is already as good as most players. seems composed, though word is the father needs to calm down - could be even worse than the famed damir dokic. needs experience, obviously but huge potential there. when he grows into his body, has the potential for a massive serve. may need to work on his speed a touch but at 16, could be anything.

women's tennis, aside from watching some very hot players, complete waste of time.

love to see nadal get up here but seems a lot of the top players getting to the late rounds.

I went to a fight in Oz,

but a tennis match broke out..........

very very sad. idiots acting like soccer fans. they should be jailed for years.

just saw bits and pieces of federer. down 2-0 sets and the bloke he was playing, from one bit i saw, choked and missed two seriously easy winners which probably would have given it to him in straight sets. think federer very lucky, and also very talented of course, but i don't see him winning it.

Speaking of Federer, he just survived after being down 0-2 to Tomas Berdych. I didn't watch it, but read that the main reason Federer won was due to Berdych's self distruction.

i see that there are a number of matches where one player has 'retired' - in both men's and women's. interestingly, every single one, as is almost always the case with tennis, both men's and women's, is where the player who was behidnd has retired (nice way of saying injury. this is nothing more than a disgraceful case of loser's limp (there may be the odd, very rare, exception and possibly the belarusian who 'retired' against the scary williams sister is one). my solution is that they immediately forfeit all prize money for that tournament or, if they claim it is legit, then they withdraw from all play for a month to allow their 'imjury' to recover.

spectators do not pay to see overpaid, spolit wannabee c-grade celebrities give up because they are not winning.

what's got you so cynical lately?

always look on the bright side of life......

I agree, why so many "retired"s? Victoria Azarenka was actually up one set to nil when she dropped out against Serena Williams.

she was the possible exception i mentioned though she was well down in the 2nd.

for those that do follow the tennis, you might be interested in the revised forecasts for the temperature on centre court - remember that down on the playing surface, they reckon it is 10 to 15 degrees © hotter. wed - 41C, thur to sat 40C!!!

His mum repossessed her BMW leaving Ken to take public transit.

He just seems a little more acerbic than usual as of late - that would make sense.

I thought perhaps RA had sold him some more fugazis, or tricked him again with

some exploders.

I thought all you northerners were used to the heat and it was far too cold down here in Melbourne for your fragile joints. Got to admit, the water is still cold though.

hate the heat. at least yours is a dry heat, much preferable to ours.

i'd rather your 41 than 33 here on a muggy day.

Yeah, the humidity zaps the life out of me when I venture north. Takes about a week to aclimatise.

I'm not really a huge fan of watching sport on tv. The mere mention of watching rugby league is enough to send me into a coma. I do like to watch the occasional union match though - generally the more important ones. Although I used to play it at school, I find football (soccer) boring most of the time as well. Actually I might revise my choice for most interesting sport on tv - downhill skiing is a lot of fun to watch but unfortunately it's not the most televised sport in Australia for some reason.

As for fights at the tennis, I've been to the Australian Open twice in the last five or so years, and the Serbs & Bosnians went at it both times. Generally not the nicest supporters you'll find there by a long way. It's worth the ticket price just to see some of the Swedish supporters though :D

I didn't realize how hot it was until I watched some coverage today. They mentioned it was so hot that the trains had to shut down since the rails are buckling!! I thought the heat in Texas was bad, but that's some serious heat right there :D.

I know I'm talking to myself right now, but what the heck! :D :D :D

The Verdasco vs. Nadal match was absolutely one of the best you'll ever see!!! Here are the highlights:

That was an amazing match. Think what Verdasco would be like if he was healthy! Thanks for the link. :) I was telling my son about the match and I wanted to show him the point where Nadal did the two 360°s in the fourth set. Couldn't find it anywhere else.

think that the terrific nadal v verd match will greatly benefit federer. he had a walk through as easy as poss against roddick and an extra night. must give him a big boost. but i love the way nadal fights. love to se him win it.
