Wanted to post my experience on this Hoyo Petite Robusto, I must begin by saying I smoked my first one during a work trip to Barcelona in May of 2007, which is when I bought this stick. I would imagine its from 05 or 06. I smoked about 5 on that trip and all were wonderful, really left an impression on me.

So after getting home, I ordered a box and tried to keep them around but they were like candy and only lasted about 7months before they were gone. Enjoyed every one.

During that time I held onto this one from Spain, and after watching Obamas inauguration speech, decided to pull it out and enjoy during my hour drive to work. Yes, I know they dont last an hour, but that gives me time to air-out before walking into the building. :2thumbs:

They are beautiful to look at, constructed well and the dark wrapper is is very inviting.

I had it in my 62% humi box for a couple days, and maybe I shouldnt have - the burn started out a bit harsh and stayed hot throughout, I didnt really taste anything good til the end of the first third (not a lot of thirds on a cigar this small!) and even then it was nothing to write home about.

Those flavors i remembered and enjoyed were missing, 'cept for some tabacco and leather. I kept getting the feeling they were burned off before they reached my mouth.

Some folks might think driving is not a good time for a cigar, but for me, especially in the winter, I really enjoy the ride and the relaxation that a good smoke brings with it.

The last inch and a half was the best, but still missing, I was almost glad the smoke was so short by this point.

In the end, I wondered if time was not good for this Hoyo, I was wishing I had smoked it last summer, but,

I would still get another box to enjoy while young. Perhaps it was a tad to dry, tho it did not feel that way to the touch.

Let me know if anyone has put some time on these short beauties and got anything from the wait.

Thanks for the review. I've always enjoyed these. Still have a few from NOV 05.

By the way, excellent multi tasking - driving, smoking and taking photos. I would have ended up in a ditch. :2thumbs:

You are right .. they look better than its real taste...

I believe HdM Petit Robusto must be smoked right away after opening the box... it is a good short cigar for a smoke on the go..

I really don't know if they improve with some aging, I tried to smoke them after a week of laying down in the humidor.. but I wasn't impressed..

So, when yo dont' have time douring the day for a delightfull smoking.. simply smoke a Hoyo de monterrey Petit Robusto..

I am frustrated by my 05s. They seem to have potential but I agree, laying them down has not produced any real improvement to flavour or burn

I got a bargain on some 06 15 count cardboard packs awhile back. These are fantastic cigars. Well made, great character and superb flavors. This is one of the best cigars to come to market in years.

My mid 06 box was very good and as i said, they were gone in not a lot of time.

Perhaps this older stick was just not from a batch that aged well.

I guess it goes to show you should smoke a few shortly after you get them to decide on holding or smoking.

Of course it nice to keep one or two sticks for a few years just for chuckles - you never know if it might turn into something great, or what I smoked.

I can't comment on the in between years as I bought several of these from Hong Kong when first released and I still have some. I like them a lot so when the opportunity arrived to buy more at a good price I jumped in again. The funny thing is the original release boxes are lost somewhere in my humidor and I am smoking the newer vintage. I actually think the newer vintage is better!
