Fuzz AI Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 It amazes me what people are willing to pay for. "It's not about spices. It's about being fresh." Had a good laugh at that since all the ingredients are imported. NT News
smokum Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I like this : "Sometimes, people don't understand. That's not Italian. I'd never heard of this before I came to Australia," he said. Then this : In the two weeks Il Piatto has been open, six people have ordered the focaccia, but many more have ordered a $100 pizza - which includes wagyu beef, fresh truffles and lobster. Someone should take this guy to Italy or Sicily so they can slap the **** out of him...he obviously doesn't know what Italian pizza really is.
sounddust Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I have never understood people paying lubricous amounts of money for pizza. Pizza just tastes like cheese and tomato sauce in the end no matter what you put on it. If it's wagyu beef you want, have a steak of it. I'm hungry.
El Presidente Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I give the restaurant two months before it closes. Lets be serious, The Northern Territory is Dodge City Aussie style. Still, locals are not idiots
Colt45 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 "The prosciutto comes from a rare black pig in Spain" And that's Italian?!?
sounddust Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 That certain pig must be one quick hog to have so many legs.
Alberto_Magnus Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Never mind, Fuzz beat me to it. Set a high price. Utter some nonsense about the "why the bucks". People will money will buy it... As for the rest, I'm with Rob. Two months of life to the business. But in the meanwhile, thumbs down to those who bought it
android Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I’m a salesman & I luv to read crazy **** like this…obviously a very niche market right… but 20 yrs. ago I would have never imagined people paying $4 a day for coffee/latte or $100 for a cheeseburger in NYC or myself paying $20-$50 and sometimes $100 for a cigar? Good for him, I wish him success.

Good for him, I wish him success. Some good points. The one thing that strikes me though is that these are basically bread - basic staple foods. Oh well, put a shiny band, I mean wrapper on it, and call it special...... In the end if people like it and are willing to pay, it's their business.
JMH Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I can't believe he managed to pull that off in the NT of all places
