Rogers72 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Without having tried more than a handful of marcas for 06-08, the lightest smokes that I have stumbled upon have been Cohiba Siglo IV (08) and RyJ Short Churchill (07). I still would put both closer to medium though. I agree that the HDM2 is at least medium.
Habanos2000 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 It seems strange to me, that people would be looking for a light bodied Cuban cigar? I pursue them for just the opposite reason.
Taino Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I have a box of Bolivar robustos 2008 that is mild/medium and very enjoyable... I don't know if is this box in particular or could be for all 08's. I have to saly also that I have only smoked 2 of the box.
Van55 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I have a little conundrum. I'm a bit surprised you would admit to your manly deficiency on your public board, Rob. I wear extra large ones, myself.
bolivr Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Not sure if I am on the right train here since a quick scan through seems no-one has mentioned La Gloria Cubana, she of the slender shape. Medal d'Or #1 is the only one I have tried and I found it mild, pehaps timid is the word or even "shy", but still interesting. I don't know, I like them for the variety they provide compared to all the others. Not smoked an R&J in years and I don't think I am missing much ... And congratulations Lisa !
SamuraiJack Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Oh, I forgot, the few Hoyo Petite Robustos (07's 08's) I've had have been EXTREMELY mild. It may have been a case of being too green tho. Anyone else have this experience?
ARRV Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I have always put the Rafael Gonzalez, Sancho Panza and San Cristobal in the "Light bodied" category. Recent tastings (past 3 months) of 2007/08 stock however show them to be fuller than previous years....to the extent that they are no longer truly "light". Let me know what you have tried over the past couple of months from post 06 which is "light bodied". If you have a code let me know. The reason for the question is simply to assist those seeking lighter bodied cigars. We like to be accurate when giving recommendations. Rafael Gonzalez Panetelas Extra MAR 06 - a box I picked up from you guys recently which I am presently working my way through - simply perfect morning to pre lunch cigar [for my budget!!]. So I guess I can't add to the post 06 comments yet - have to wait until I finish this box.
habanohal Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Monte C......................flavorful but very light
Ken Gargett Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Monte C......................flavorful but very light i know that there are differences re this cigar but every single one i have seen has been dire at best. shockers. i know others have had better experiences.
Bill Hayes Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I always liked the La Gloria Cubana Tainos. Maybe you should try one and a Quai D' orsay corona maybe?
jwm8592 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Hey Rob, Some might not agree, but the RyJ SC that I have from 2006 were very much mild/light-bodied, smooth when I first received them and began smoking a few. Now as they have aged a bit I have found some to have actually become stronger. But as far as robusto's go, these have been the lightest ones that I have smoked.
ironpeddler Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Funny you should post this question Rob...I've been on this hunt for over 9 months now. The older I get, the more there are times I don't want my butt kicked when I want a casual smoke. While you mentioned a robusto size, I went at it in a petite corona size. I agree with SamuraiJack on the Por Larranaga Petit Coronas. My 07 CAB smoke OK and are a bit on the milder side, but they wreak of youth with that bitter taste. Then I moved on to the Trinidad Coloniales (another 07)...they are a mild/medium, but again, too young to enjoy now. Then I bought a box of Hoyo Palmas Extra (07 & cheap enough) on a recommendation of a friend...I had smoked them in the past and this box was NOTHING like its predecessors...darker wrapper & stronger profile, they even smelled different! My next box stop was the Rafael Gonzalez Petit Coronas and that one I didn't like at all. While it had a more mature flavor.... like you said, what was always a milder smoke went to the right side of mild/medium. WTF. Then I went to my old stand-bye, the larger Hoyo Epicure No.2 (08)...and that's then I quit the search. Even the HyM #2s were stronger than memory serves me. Through all of my searching, the one mild CC I smoked time and time again...the JLP Cremas! Go figure. It's a great little cigar to smoke when I don't want to pay attention to my smoking experience When you find a milder CC in a robusto or corona or petite corona...let me know, I'm running out of money experimenting!
hoyopr Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Maybe this is why HSA is bring out "Montecristo Sport or Cool" or what ever their proposing.
