Tonight I was tasked with writing a reference for someone who has worked for me for a couple of years and I decided I needed a cigar to help me think.

The reference only took a few minutes , he's a good kid.

I decided to turn the rest of the evening into my first attempt at a review.

I chose a Hoyo De Monterrey EPI 2 and paired it with a Glenmorangie single malt Port cask extra matured.

The cigar appears to have a good construction with a light wrapper.

I clipped the end with my Ciglo punch . The draw is perfect , no wind tunnel here.

The flavour at cold is a kind of arrowroot biscuit.

I light it up and at first I'm a little undecided on what the flavour is but I think you might call it a little leathery.

I'm down to about the first third now and the ash is excellent , perfectly formed and the burn is very even all around. I get the feeling this cigar could go all the way without dropping ash.

As I'm smoking this cigar I'm timing the burn with my Oris Williams Mark Webber Limited edition chronograph. I have just recently removed the stainless steel bracelet that I bought for it and replaced the original rubber strap that it came on. The contrast of the titanium case and the black rubber strap is superb.

Down to the half way mark on the cigar now and I'm not really detecting any great change in flavour yet.

Would you call this consistent or boring?

I don't know . All I know is I am enjoying the experience and I would class it as a good consistent smoke with absolutely no burn problems. No great complexity but I think a good companion to the Glenmorangie.

Getting towards the last third and I now get a hint of milk coffee.

As I sit here out on my back deck the cigar is now down to the every last , to the point where my fingers are at risk of being burned.

In the distance I hear the sound of the train leaving Ferny Grove station and there is the sound of the Brown Striped marsh frogs croaking in the back yard pond.

All in all it has been an enjoyable experience. The scotch is finished but I could go on smoking the EPI 2 if only it was longer.

The time recorded on my chronograph indicates that it has been an enjoyable 1 hour and 15 minutes.

I would like to thank the fine people of Cuba , the sixteen men of Tain for perfecting a fine single malt , and the crew of Holsteen Switzerland for this great evening.

It's now midnight and time for me to turn in.

Cheers

Warren

Warren, thanks for sharing the experience - nice job. The consistent / boring aspect could be considered a "lack of

complexity", which is not necessarily a bad thing as long as you are enjoying the flavor.

As for the watch, if you check the forum regs, you'll see there is a rule against shilling :perfect10::bsmeter:

Great review! I have really been enjoying the Epi2 lately from a box from Feb 08. I have been getting pretty much the same creamy coffee over really good tobacco flavors.

Nice write-up.

The Epi No. 2 is my all time favourite morning cigar with some home roasted coffee - always a great day when it starts off like that..

Great review Warren. The fact that you brought in "ORIS" gives you bonus points

Don't make it your last review.

Wonderful review Warren.

I've been tempted a few times to post one but, haven't had the courage.

My novice palate would pale into insignificance compared to the seasoned veterans here.

Well done.
