Huckins Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 anyone have some recommendations for a very very good Fino/White Sherry? I enjoyed some in Spain a few years ago but paid no attention to what I was drinking - probably because I wasn't paying (my wife's granny is very generous). Cheers.
Huckins Posted January 15, 2009 Author Posted January 15, 2009 There must be someone on the board who can point me to a good sherry. Any help is appreciated. Cheers.

Colt45 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Sorry Huckins - I don't have much personal experience, but here's a link to a thread: Sherry Link If you do a search, you may find a bit more - happy hunting!
Huckins Posted January 15, 2009 Author Posted January 15, 2009 Colt - thx for the link - very interesting - must try the Czar House sherry. Should have known that Ken knew a bit about sherry too. Cheers,
Ken Gargett Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Colt - thx for the link - very interesting - must try the Czar House sherry. Should have known that Ken knew a bit about sherry too. Cheers, as you'll see from that other link, it is very much an acquired taste but it would appear you've shown the good taste to acquire it!! unlike some heathens currently away on boat trips. manzanilla is the style of fino that comes from a town next to the sea, sanlucar, hence the influence of the oystershell and brine note. served chilled, wonderfully refreshing. fino is same style - as in bone dry - from the rest of the region around jerez. perhaps not quite as lean and refreshing as manzanilla. the PX or pedro ximenez as rob mentioned, is extremely sweet. totally the other end of the spectrum. lustau is one o the very best producers in the region, at all levels and styles. if you want a cheap, but very good manzanilla, hildago's 'la gitana' is a cracker.
Don Candido Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 No offense, but I did not know anyone actually still drank Sherry (except for Frasier & Niles Crane, in syndication on TV...)
