soltino Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 I picked up two of these at the beginning of 2008 as part of sampler from the Czar, so I have no box code I'm afraid. I remembered enjoying the first one so I decided to have this stick as my New Years day smoke. I leaved through my notes and found this description of the first stick: “This cigar reminded me of a University road trip. The first half hour was spent full of excitement, eagerly anticipating what lay ahead. Once the initial euphoria elapsed, you just enjoyed the ride, listening to your favourite mix tape as your drove. As you approached your destination the rush returned, setting you up perfectly for the night ahead” Let’s see if a year in the humidor could possibly improve on that! The cigar looks fantastic, light brown colour and the aroma at cold is like fresh hay. The first few draws are perfect and full of the classic Cohiba grassiness. Strength is slightly shy of medium but this is a very balanced opening, just what I was hoping for (Apologies for the wonky pictures... it ended up being a very wonky night!) The first third continues in this vein, not very strong but pairs well with the sparkling white that my wife and I are enjoying. A very refreshing combination, quite inspiring actually considering what a dreadful year 2008 has been for us. Around the half way point now and a hint of something sweeter has arrived. I can’t quite place it but it is very pleasant. I would say it is slightly citrus, but that may just be the second bottle of wine taking control of my palate! Strength has increased slight, stronger tobacco and slight spice through the nose – not enough to be peppery though. Towards the end now and I don’t want this cigar to end! Flavours abound now, much stronger that the first third, tobacco, grass and shortbread are coming through in droves. What a great ending All in all I would say that the extra year has definitely improved this cigar. It was more balanced, no real signs of youth and lashings of what Cohiba does best. This cigar is still like a great road trip, but now you aren’t in your old beaten up Ford, you’re in a Mercedes, cruising along with your CD multi-changer jammed packed with your favourite tracks. When I have the cash, I will definitely be picking up a box of these to store for the long haul.
El Presidente Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Fantastic Review and Photo's !!!!! I too hope that 09 will be a stellar year for you and your wife On the Lancero.....I have fallen out of love with it for some time now. I am going through the motions and I no longer look forward to lighting it. I need a sensational Lancero to remind me how good they can be and I need to find some soon. As it is I am sleeping around with others....Connie 1/2 Monte Especial, LGC 1.

habanohal Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I only have boxes from 2001. And never tasted any other years. Though these have been some of the finest tasteing cigars that Cohiba rolls. Never a plug yet either ,from which others run into from the 01s Will one time get a box of recent to compare
Mel Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Well I can't say I've never had a tight one but I do like them if I am in the mood. Treh CoRo on the other hand creates its own mood and is never at the wrong time.
