Rogers72 Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Trinidad Reyes STL NOV 06 with Talisker 10yr. This is the second to last cigar out of a 12 box I picked up about a year ago. They have been fantastic but I haven't had one in several months so I wanted to see how they were coming along. All of the Reyes from this box have been beautifully constructed of dark colorado wrappers. This particualar example had developed a nice oily sheen to it. Aroma at cold was new cowboy boots. I clipped the pigtail cap to find a perfect draw and put fire to it. The first third was just good ole cuban tobacco with a nice cedary/teaky wood flavor. Plenty of smoke and I would put it on the medium side of full. Burn was flawless. The second third mellowed a little more toward medium and things kinda rounded out a bit. The cedar was still present but to a lesser degree. Not quite as powerful here but seemingly more balanced and mellow. In the final third, things got even better. Any harsh edges that were present before are gone now and there is almost none of that cedar around anymore. Just a rich, thick mouthfeel of smooth, medium, premium tobacco. A great ending! What I love about the Reyes that I have had is that they don't really TRY to be anything other than what they are. It's like this cigar knows that it only has a moment of your time so there's really not much room for bullshit. If I had to, I would score this one around 90. So far, the past year or so of age hasn't affected these cigars much I don't think. I will try and save the final example from this code for another year or so to see what happens. TR06.bmp
Rogers72 Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 I obviously haven't figured out how to post pictures with the new forum format...
aavkk Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Thanks for the review, I also love these. Some of the better examples from my Feb 07 box had everything you mentioned with a little hazelnut and vanilla undertones.
audio1der Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Nice pic, and thanks for sharing your thoughts on this stick! I just passed on a box of '05s at a great price, so this hurts all the more...
El Presidente Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Excellent Review of a personal Favourite. You are right in that they are remarkable uniform in flavour and have a personality which reveals a cigar very comfortable in its own skin.
hoyopr Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Great cigar and I also am smoking from the same box code with a couple of boxes from Apr 08 for the future. These I've found always well constructed and the perfect cigar with a mid morning coffee on the weekend.
sepp Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 A fine and enticing review! Thanks for the inspiration.
Guest rob Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Cool review. This is a really nice cigar... and I'm sitting here wondering why I dont have a box.
mongboy Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Cool review. This is a really nice cigar... and I'm sitting here wondering why I dont have a box. Do yourself a favour, Rob, and pick some up. They're so consistent, balanced and tasty !
Alberto_Magnus Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Cool review. This is a really nice cigar... and I'm sitting here wondering why I dont have a box. Nice review! I also have 4 left in a box of 12, also STL NOV06, so they're from the same batch. By the way, has anyone figured out what factory is STL? Trinidad, in all its formats, has a real brand character...
