WYPirate Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 I turned my Dad on to cigars during a visit he paid a couple months ago. I sent him home with a tupperdor of NCs for him to enjoy. After he finished them off, he visited a corner store where he buys fine ales, spirits, and cigars. The owner offered him a couple Habanos singles. The first was a PSD4, and the second a Cohiba Esplendido. I posted pics of the PSD4 on another forum, and it was soundly proven fake. I asked him to send me the band from the CE, it arrived today. I ran it through the scanner for your inspection. The vertical white lines on the band are from where he folded it to mail it to me. I can see several things off with this band. First, the "Habana Cuba" text seems too "thin" compared to the bold lettering I see on my Siglo II. Second, the cuts on the band are not clean, but seem to have shaggy tear marks like they were torn apart off a perforated roll before being applied to the cigar. Thirdly, the gold border next to the A in Cohiba seems to be "off" where it meets the checkers. Also, the COHIBA text seems to be improperly proportioned inside the border, letters too close to it. The checker's width also looks off. Lastly, the color is too yellow when held against my Siglo II's band. Those are the obvious flaws. You SME's see anything else? I want to tell him these are not the real deal. I want to word that properly. He says the seller has a "money-back, satisfaction guarantee". Thing is, my Dad is enjoying these cigars, it's the representation and the price that has me bothered. Any suggestions?
El Presidente Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Thing is, my Dad is enjoying these cigars Nuff said Buy him some Siglo's for Christmas and never let him run out. No father likes their son pointing out they made a mistake. He enjoys them then that is enough. Focus on the great times you are sharing with you father, the cigar is secondary. He will work it out in his good time if he has the inclination to do so.

jeromeroselli Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 You know... On my honeymoon in Nassau... I bought a 'cuban cigar' (Esplendidos) from a woman on the beach out of a Cohiba box. (Priced at $35 each, but negotiated 6 for $60) At the time, I liked cigars, but didn't know anything about them, and I was so excited because I had never had a cuban. I still have two of them, and have given most of them out as gifts to clients. It's made me look pretty cool, but I know they're faker than silicon. I think I'll give another one of them away and keep the last in the humidor as a souvenir/keepsake. If anyone wants a fake Cohiba.. let me know! Haha...
stargazer14 Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 I have this same band on a cigar given to me at a ballgame. I may smoke it sometime, but for now keep it around to make the rest of the Cohibas look even better!
Guest rob Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 If you havent frozen them - keep those fakes bagged if stored with the rest of your smokes is my advice. No scientific theory here... but best be safe than sorry.
stargazer14 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I dont have to bag mine - its still in that beautiful crystal tube that Cohiba put it in!
