I'm a little confused about this whole "sick period" thing I keep hearing about Cuban cigars. Like these Party Shorts I just got, I hear people saying they smoke great while they're fresh. On the other hand some people say no you have to age them at least a year.

If anybody can clarify this for me that would be great. Also if certain cigars do have a known "sick period" it would be nice for us new guys to have a list available.

Slim

Here are a few links to previous topics on sick periods and cigars that are good young. Some cigars seem to avoid the sick periods and some need to be either enjoyed the first 6 months or after a year or so. Check these out..very good info:

I guess I need to learn how to search better. I was looking around the forum for half an hour and didn't find anything. Well thanks a lot guys for pointing a blind man in the right direction.

I've grown to draw a distinction in my own mind between the "sick period" during which new or newish Cuban cigars smell and taste of ammonia and what I call a "dumb period" during which some Cuban cigars seem to be flat and totally uninteresting. All Cuban cigars go through the sick period. (You might not notice this because in most cases the sick period is over before you even get your cigars.) Not all go through a dumb period(s). And the dumb period(s) is unpredictable. When people refer to PSD4's as going into a prolonged sick period after about 6 months or a year, what they are really referring to is my so-called "dumb period."

Does this make sense to anyone else, or am I just a meathead?

I'm a meathead too. I feel the same way about how a cigar might be "off" at any given time. I see quite a few that are dumb and dull without the amonia of the green sick cigar.

Remember Rob Meatheads have money and it is more easy to get. You love us.
