Nice review of a favorite. I've been slowly smoking from a January '06 box.

They are just now smoothing out and showing their Montecristo character.

Early on, they were quite sharp, tannic, and harsh - truly wild! But I must

say I've enjoyed smoking them from time to time, and witnessing their

evolution first hand.

Good review!

I like these a lot; simple, unpretentious and completely satisfying; what more could you want!

Cheers,

Thanks for the review. I have an OCT '06 box that is napping and have been close to sampling it. I guess I'll let it snooze just a little longer. :-)

I have an ABR 06 box that has been just outstanding. Smoked over half & each has been delicious. This after rather lackluster production in 04 & 05. Actually, I've been quite pleased with all 06s from MC- #1 through #5.

This is number 11 from a box of 25 that actually was my first Czar order.

Unlike the rest I´ve smoked from that particular box, this one was slightly loose in the packing. Some apparent soft spots, but nothing to get upset about.

Smell: Sweet tobacco.

Prelight taste: Light grass.

Draw: Quite loose, but not an catastrophy.

1/3: Starts up with smooth, but strong tobacco taste. After a few puffs it gets subdued. The taste is just mellow. Mayday! Were loosing power!! A slight burn issue is emerging. However the smoke is as thick as the mist of Lützen, and that I like!

2/3 Getting stronger, but still a little bit under the ice. Burn straightening. Feels like its waking up. Aaah!! It´s alive!!! Smooth but strong tobacco taste is returning accompanied by a touch of cedar. Finally!! The smoke is still thick and creamy.

3/3 It just keeps on going. Great monte-taste and tons of smoke. Only a hint of bitterness. This is a classic, and not a very expensive one either.

Conclusion: After a faint start it showed its real face and turned out to be just as nice as its late brothers and sisters from this particular box.

The finish on this one was less bitter than the last ones I´ve had over the months, wich mean they´re getting better and better.

Score 89/100
