the question is, when to smoke what kind of cigar?

I think a true good cigar should be appreciated,

when your first cigar ever is a cohiba (for example) it will be just a cigar... but when you've smoked 100's of cigars before and then smoke a cohiba, it will be a lot more then just a cigar, right?

so now, I'm smoking and comparing and when the time is right... :hungry:

Well done Cliff

Great collection and the satisfaction which only comes from building something yourself. It is a sense of satisfaction that I am unlikely to ever experience

Sure you have...You've built FOH and Czar into something something pretty special. Time to pat yourself on the back...or you can let Ken do it and find a nice handprint on the back of your shirt later.

I agree, when you've build something yourself, it gives a good feeling to look at it...

all the hours of hard work are quickly forgotten.

on to the next project! (to pleasure my wife it won't be something with cigars or humidors :-D )

Hi all,

this is my story;

as a cigar smoker, I've bought a small humidor were you can put about 50 cigars in, everybody knows about witch one I'm talking about right?

then I've bought a small cabinet with a glass window but when that became to small I decided to make one myself.

this worked out pretty well, it even had an active humidification system...

then I had a break through, :-D I found a small add on the internet, "cigars for sale, reason: stopped with smoking" so I desided to visit this man.

when I arrived, I just couldn't believe my eyes: it was a castle! :surprised:

as it turned out to be, the man was a 87year old count, his castle was from 1615, and it was stuffed with paintings from even Rembrandt, P.P. Rubens etc etc...

there was even a photo with him and President Carter.:surprised:

(try to immagion how I felt then!)

he stopped with smoking in the 1970's because he had to for his wife.:crying:

it was a friend of him that told him to sell the cigars, so someone else could enjoy them. it was either that or the thrash can...

so he got out his cigars, all 1300 of them,

a lot were russian, cannarian, dutch, belgian etc etc.

there were also a lot cubans, and not just regular cubans, no, they were mostly pre-castro.

there was even a box henry clays (company that stopped in 1930 in cuba).

the more I looked, the more I found, and after a while I even found cuban Davidoffs (No.2), Chateau haut brion and ambassadrices. even a few montechristo dunhill's.

even a lot of cigars that don't exist anymore, for example; pronto, la deliciosa, flor de lis, lopez del real...

(try to immagion now, how I felt :-D )

so I checked every cigar, yes every cigar, the man didn't mind, he even insisted that I looked.

he even enjoyed talking after 30years about cigars...

so I bought all the cubans he had, even a few canarians (aguila cedros, perfect box)

said goodbye and started to make a bigger humidor.

(I will not say anything about the price I've payed otherwise there will be people who will start believing in fairy tales :rotfl: )

I bought a pharmacy cabinet (1910's) and started building up.

this device I've bought for 5 euro, it sucks in air, cleans it and blows it back in the air.

so I've changed that, I got out the motor and make it suck in air, moistens it, and blows it back.:-P

image7682.jpg

image7688.jpg

image7683.jpg

so what do you think? quite nice integrated, not?:-D

image7684.jpg

image7689.jpg

so now I needed something to place water in, a custum made jar of some kind... so I made it.:-D

from this

image7685.jpg

to this

image7686.jpg

when all that was finished, there was just one more thing to be done, the humidification system couldn't just run 24hrs, so I've bought a digital hygrometer, witch turns on the humidification system when it's to dry and stops at about 70-73%

image7690.jpg

image7691.jpg

image7692.jpg

I let it work for about a week, to see if it worked, if it could keep its themperature and humidity, and it worked perfectly.

after it rained the air humidity here was 85% and in the humidor still 70%

and when it was dry 55% it still didn't change.

(yes the weather can change fast here in Belgium :-( )

after all this, I've spend quite some time to place all my cigars in it... but now, the time to enjoy has began.:hungry:

here are some photo's so you can enjoy with me.

image7696.jpg

as you can see, I don't own a lot of boxes, I've been smoking cigars for only 5 years (I'm 27) and I'm still looking for my favorite, so I try anything I can buy.

I look how it tastes, how the taste changes when you age it... etc etc, so thats why I have all different kindes

pre castro punch.

pre castro la gloria cubana

image7699.jpg

image7700.jpg

my first davidoff humidor :ok:

image7701.jpg

my second has been sold, this is a photo of my third humidor.

(it has no use anymore, it's also sold)

image7702.jpg

et voila, thats all folks...

I hope you've enjoyed it? :-D :-D :-D

First, great post.

Second, please tell me that you do not have a couple of half smoked cigars in your humidor! :surprised:

That would amount to a crying shame!!!!:crying:

hi Tampa,

:lookaround: I knew that this question would come along, and yes its true, I have 4 ambassadrices that have been smoked before (not by me)

they have been smoked quite some time ago and they don't smell anymore so I've decided to put them next to the others, with ceder between.

I don't have a habit of placing smoked cigars back but I couldn't resist placing them in the humidor.
