There was so much to see in this Olympics, from the opening ceremony to the 100m & 220m of Bolt, to the Chinese domination of the games, to the drama in the 4 x 100m mens and womens relays...

Now, I've got to admit I AM A WEIGHTLIFTING JUNKIE! Apart from Cuban cigars, Irish whiskey, Guinness, girls... It's my passion. I compete (on occasion), I coach, I referee. But even if you've no interest in the sport, this story should tweak some interest:

This, to me, is a story that embodies what the games is all about.

There were many great stories, and some unfortunate gaffs. I'm starting to think that perhaps sports

that are judged should possibly be nixed, but i just don't know.

I saw the replay of the above, and while it was moving, one thing I just can't understand is

how anyone could represent a country other than their own. Like the U.S. woman who played

for the Russian basketball team, and other athletes as well.

I'll never be able to comprehend how anyone could fly another country's colors.

Never.

colt, we are in complete agreement on this. i know that some athletes want to get there no matter how but it doesn't work for me.

one of the kiwi women's basketball team (yes, apparently the kiwis were there and even won a medal of some sort for rowing - and what could epitomise that nation more than being the best at sitting on their arse and going backwards) has spent an entire one month of her life in new zealand. what a joke.

toss in the sad fact that it would be a major surprise if the vast majority of athletic and swimming medals were not won courtesy of drugs (but then only because the losers had lesser drugs), then consider that we have the absurd situation of 'events' like synchronised swimming and rythmic gymnastics as sport!! ballet is now sport!! i have no problem with people engaging in these activities but to call them sport and give out medals is ridiculous. bmx bikes? - surely most of them train by escaping police.

that said, my tv has been on the olympics for two weeks and some amazing moments.

I am in agreement about the so-called sports. Some of which are being added simply to appeal to a younger audience.
